Tired, grumpy, and already planning world destruction, Allana scratched her head and pulled the blankets off. She looked around with her eyes half closed, and concluded that it was the perfect time to go back to sleep.
As her lower back hit the sheets, Danielle barrelled through her bedroom door and aimed straight at her.
"Come on!" she insisted in an excited whisper. "Your first day of school!"
Allana groaned, grabbed her phone, and let herself be pulled to the breakfast bar. There were bacon and eggs, with a jug full of milk and another jug full of water.
"How...are you bothered?" Allana pillowed her head on her crossed arms and closed her eyes.
"First day! Kids! It's going to be fun!"
"You're more excited than I am," she grumbled.
"Come on. I made bacon," Danielle waved her hand to push the scent of bacon to Allana.
Allana sighed. "I was planning on skipping breakfast today..."
"Morning!"
Both girls turned to see Cat in her Manchester jersey and pajama pants. Her hair wasn't in any better condition than the other two, looking as if cats had fought in it. Ignoring this, Danielle took the time to show off the bacon.
"I cooked bacon today!" she said.
"Nice, Dani!" Cat gingerly picked one and took a bite. "You ready, Allana?"
"Yeah, I suppose. I have to go get ready soon."
Cat looked at the clock and saw 6:10AM. "What time do you have to be there?"
"About 7:15."
Cat silently pointed to the clock. And both she and Danielle watched as Allana popped off the chair like a jack in the box. "Holy shit! What the hell?"
She ran to the bedroom. Cat and Danielle exchanged amused glances, then watched as Allana swore seven ways to Sunday while trekking to the bathroom.
Danielle raised her glass of milk to her lips to hide her grin. Happy Monday, she thought.

She can do this. She just had to walk right in there. Face the multitude of the eager and cute faces of the youth. Teach them well. Prepare them for the cruel, outside world.
She was going to puke.
No, you won't, Allana told herself. You will be fine. They're just little kids. Young, judgemental and impressionable kids. Oh, God.
She took the first step in.
The classroom was big. The walls were covered in a royalty purple colour, and were lined with endless wooden bookshelves that held the textbooks. The desks were in meticulous rows and columns, and the carpeted floor muffled her movement.
It was quiet, and Allana tried not to focus on all the heads following her as she moved to the center of the classroom. She faced them with the whiteboard behind her, and cracked a nervous smile.
"Hey, everyone," she greeted, and internally screamed in ecstasy when they responded.
"Good morning, Ms. Marvell."
She cleared her throat and smiled down at multiple pairs of big, curious eyes. "As you know, I'll be your new drama teacher. You guys would have to teach me the routines of this school, okay? Get me in the groove of things. Yell at me when I'm late." She grinned when heads nodded and a few soft snickers sounded.
"Alright guys. Let's start the day." She began to unload her bag, bringing out a laptop and whiteboard markers.
"Miss?"
She looked up, unsure where the small voice came from. "Yes?"
She saw a young girl, a polka-dot bow tie in her blonde hair and gray eyes, fidgeting in her seat. "Where are you from?"
Allana smiled and continued unpacking. "What's your name?"
"T-Tanya."
"Hey, Tanya. I'm from Australia."
The little girl tilted her head. "Really?"
"Yep. Born and raised."
"Is that why you sound funny?"
Amused, she looked up again and smiled. "You can say that, yeah."
"I know what that's called," a boy claimed, who sat at the back of the classroom, "It's called an accent, right?"
"Yes, it is. And what's your name?"
The boy inhaled, and seemed ready to beat his chest. "I'm Jack."
Tanya's voice grew even quieter. "It's very pretty."
Allana grinned. "Thank you, Tanya. You'll be hearing it for a long time, so don't worry. That goes to every one of you," she allowed her eyes to scan the room before continuing, "If you don't understand something I say, please don't be scared to ask me to repeat, okay?"
"Yes, Miss Marvell."
Allana had a feeling she'll never get tired of hearing that.
"Alright. Let's have some fun."
