Chapter 16 - Danielle

A loud screaming in her ear woke Danielle up from her peaceful slumber. She bolted up, and was greeted by a cake to the face.

"Happy birthday!" everyone screamed.

"Jesus Christ," Danielle muttered as she swung her legs to the edge of the bed. But then she had an idea. She peaked and saw Allana was standing the closest. Pushing herself off the bed, Danielle rammed her friend onto the floor.

"Holy shit!" Allana screamed.
"What just happened?" Al asked the rest of the unaffected.
"I think we should light the candles," Tofu whispered.

Everyone nodded and slid out of the room, leaving Allana and Danielle alone on the floor, smudged with cake.

"I hate you," Danielle declared.
Allana giggled, "Love you too."
"I should've seen that coming. Damn it."

Laughing, both of them stood up. Allana reached for her phone. The duo took a selfie before heading out, not bothering to wash off the sticky chocolate.

Rija waved them to the lit birthday cake, "Happy birthday."

"Thanks, Rija," Danielle grinned.

"Happy birthday, nerd," Al came forward with a gift. "I'd hug you...but."

"No, you're giving me a hug," Danielle laughed and wrapped her arms around Al's waist, smudging some of the chocolate onto his shirt. "And thanks for the present."

Al grinned and nodded. Trevvy, Cat, Ryan and Myles all came forward with their arms outstretched, initiating a big group hug.

"Happy birthday, Dani!"

"Thanks, guys. Really."

Danielle sat near the cake as the group sang the obligatory song. Without her parents pushing her around, this might be the best birthday she has ever experienced. She laughed and blew the candles, thanking everyone.

"Now, I have to go to work," Trevvy said as she picked up her bag, "I couldn't get today off, I'm sorry."

"No, no, it's totally fine. Thank you so much, Trev."

She smiled and nodded, heading towards the door, "Okay. Happy birthday. Bye guys!"

"See you!"

"Are you going to call your parents?" Rija asked.

"They're probably going to call me. If not, then," Danielle shrugged and licked chocolate off her finger, "oh well."

Myles shifted his feet, unintentionally grabbing everyone's attention. He looked baffled and smiled sheepishly, "Can I have cake yet?"

They all laughed. Danielle picked up the knife and began cutting parts off for everyone. Allana blasted some music from her phone, head-banging to Taylor Swift's new song, Good Blood.

"Al, that's my piece!" Allana pulled the paper plate towards her.

"But she gave it to me!"

"She didn't give anything to you. She only put pieces of the cake on a plate."

"Yeah, and I grabbed this one."
