Chapter 5- An Uneaven Standoff...

Dinner passed without an incident, Dad had called me into his office besides his room to talk thing over and answer my questions.

“Ask away” he said in a relieved voice.

“Can you shift?” I ask.

“Yes, but I am getting too old to continue. When Alpha’s are too old to continue shifting usually their eldest child becomes the Beta then Alpha when we have a ceremony in front of the whole pack to announce the leadership roll being passed from father to son. Each of you children has some sort of Alpha blood but only one will have more than the rest combined. That is Leo in this case.”

“How many people are in the pack?” I ask.

“Forty full grown males, twenty females and about eighty kids including new born to teenagers...”

 “Right, and most of the my school are wolves?”

“Yes,”

“Have the boys shifted yet?”

“Yes, males shift earlier than females.”

“Is it true about mates, and the imprint thing like Twilight?”

“To some level, We have two different types of mates. True mates are ones that feel the pull to their mate and plain makes are just two people who have not found their mate by a certain age. Teenagers mostly date in High school as you can’t know who your mate is unless one of you have already shifted. “

“Are there many True mated wolves?”

“Not a lot, they are hard to come by but when they are mated it seems as though they both know on some subconscious level.”

“Does any of the boys have a mate?” I ask innocently hoping Nate had not found his mate as I like him a whole lot.

“Yes, Both Nate and Jake have found their mates. Jake’s mate is your friend Jamie actually. She is in the pack so she knows about all the mating process and all.”

“Good for him…” I trail off feeling the disappointment of not ever being Nate’s mate. His mate must be beautiful to catch his eye, so special she must be to have him running after her. I sighed and regretted asking immediately as I felt really bad. My chest started to hurt and my head began to spin. Rejection and I didn’t even talk to him. He had used me.

He got a measly kiss from me and then ran back to his mate. He just needed me for a quick feeling then went and found his mate. He used me…

“I’m not feeling too good. I need some sleep” I mumbled knowing he would hear me as I made my way from his office towards my room. Minutes after I had entered my room and laid on my bed Leo came in with a sad look on his face, obviously feeling what I felt.

“It’s not fair” I muttered into his chest as he held me close and stroked my hair.

“I know, don’t worry” he said. We lay on the bed silently for an hour till he finally spoke again, “Why were you crying?”

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“You can tell me anything.” He whispered, “Please know that.”

“I know I can, I just don’t want to.”

“Fine be that way” he huffed as he walked to the door and strode out without looking back. I walked towards my door and peeked out, the coast was clear. I ran quickly downstairs and to the freezer. I had always had chocolate with mum when I was really upset and I found a small tub of it at the back, obviously someone tried to hide it.
