Ashley
"What do you mean you can't get the right sizing?" I asked, my annoyance skyrocketing. Maya and I woke up early to get our rings, but it seemed like everything was going wrong.
First, my car wouldn't start. After a million tries of putting the key in the ignition, it finally, but slowly turned on. Second, Maya wasn't feeling well today. And to top it all off, the ring situation wasn't getting any better.
"I'm sorry, miss, but I'm a new worker and I don't quite know how to size things correctly. I'm afraid of making it too tight or too loose," She said apologetically, her eyes scanning over the size chart for rings.
I sighed, trying my best to be understanding.
"Can we speak to the manager, please?" Maya said sweetly, looking over at the lady while pouting. If it's one thing the girl could do, it's getting her way of things by being cute.
The worker frantically nodded her head and shuffled into the large door in the back of the shop. Impatiently, I tapped my fingers on the glass case and looked at Maya while frowning.
"This sucks, I'm sorry," I apologized, looking down at my feet. She shrugged and returned to browsing in the jewelry catalog.
"Hello, miss. How may I be of assistance?" The woman spoke, her voice all too familiar. She caught my attention, my eyes shooting straight up and widening as soon as I saw her.
Sky?!
"Fuck," I muttered under my breath, my palms becoming sweaty and my heart rate increasing. Sky gasped for a second when she realized it was me, her eyebrows raising and that signature, cunning smirk came into our view.
"Well, what do you know? Ashley!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "What brings you here?"
Maya jealously pulled my body into hers, her arm holding my waist. I could feel her grip tighten on my body as the seconds went on.
"Wedding ring shopping," Maya spoke up in a sickly sweet tone.
"Oh, really?" Sky asked, her tone genuinely curious. She smirked and lowered her eyes onto Maya's arm that was latching onto me. "Be careful, if you grip any harder, your fingers might break. You can't wear a ring on a broken finger," She teased maliciously, then laughed.
"Thanks for the concern, but I'll be alright," Maya spat, the pitch of her voice rising.
"Uh," I paused for a second, not liking the tension that was building up. Clearing my throat, I continued, "C-can you help us find the right size? The last worker didn't know how to," I said nervously.
She smiled mockingly and held out her hand for me to grab. I placed my hand in hers, my hand feeling warm and clammy against her cold, slender hand. She trailed her fingertips down the top of my hand, tracing every line and curve on it.
Maya cleared her throat and looked at her in disgust.
"She asked you to find her ring size, not to give her a hand massage," She spoke, irritancy evident in her voice.
Sky laughed and pushed her glasses up onto her face again.
"I know what I'm doing, love," She winked, continuing to feel my hand. "What ring have you chosen?" She asked me, her eyes burning straight into mine. Chills rose on my body as we locked gazes for what seemed to be an eternity.
"Um, this one," I said, moving my hand away from hers and pointing to the ring with the round-cut diamond. Maya and I decided on buying each other any ring that we liked.
