Chapter 13- Unexpected Happy Moments

The deer’s eyes seemed to be staring back at me. They were cold, empty, haunting, never as long as I lived would I forget those eyes.

Lexie was crying silently next to me, while Bailey was sniffing loudly from my other side. We may drink animal blood but we aren’t heartless. Beheading an animal and then using it’s blood to write a message is just savage. It was better then a human head though.

Sander gently touched my shoulder, only then did I realize I hadn’t removed my eyes from the deer’s head. “You okay?” she asked just as gently, almost scarred of my reaction. I turned to him and nodded. “Come.” He said quietly “Your not sleeping in here alone tonight.”

With his hand gently placed on the small of my back he guided me into both his and Jake’s shared bedroom. It was larger then Bailey’s and Lexie’s I tried to reassure myself that was the only reason I was sleeping in here.

He took a few extra blankets out of the closet as well as a pillow and set them up on the floor. When I went to lay down on the makeshift bed Sander’s voice stopped me “Where do you think your going?” he asked. I pointed to the bed on the floor. “I don’t think so.” he said grinning he pointed to his own bed “You sleep there I’ll sleep on the floor.

“Sander-.”I tried to protest but he cut me off

No buts, just go to sleep.”

“But I never said but.” I whispered but of course Sander heard me with his super hearing and laughed loudly. He climbed into his temporary bed, and I into his. Sander reached over, for he was closer then I, and flicked off the light.

I wrapped the blanket tighter around myself finding myself lost I sanders scent that seemed to never dull within his sheets.

I berried my face deeper into his pillow and was soon asleep.

I was running through the woods. Running and running not sure where I was going only knowing that if I didn’t get there fast enough, something bad was going to happen. I burst through trees, entering a clearing. My lungs were burning my legs aching in exhausted agony.

There were six hooded figures standing in the clearing, all facing something I couldn’t see. I called out to them but not a single once of them responded, not even sparing me a glance.

I walked around hem trying to see what they were all so focused on only to gasp and hold back a scream. Sander, Lexie, Bailey, Lexie, Jake and Jason were all bound tightly to a tree, a figure standing directly in front of each of them. Each of the hooded figures drew a streak knife from each of their cloaks, the blades glinted in the moonlight.

Sander’s eyes met mine momentary “Help me.” he mouthed before the blade plunged into his heart, simultaneously as the other blades all stabbed the hearts of all of my loved ones.

“No!” I screamed dropping onto m knees in front of Sander staring into his cold lifeless eyes. Sanders eyes were open staring at me, but it wasn’t his eyes that stared back, but the eyes of the deer.

“No.” I whispered stumbling backwards “No.” Sander couldn’t be dead.

I turned around to face the hooded man who had done this. Facing all six of the hooded figures, they each reached up and lowed their hoods.
