Chapter 8- Pain Sucks

I slept for the whole day the pain medication really working to my advantage. By the time I woke I my headache was gone and I had already decided I wasn't going to tell the others about my visitor the night prier. They were worried about me; they didn't need anything else on top of that.

It was Monday and since I was getting around the apartment fine Jake instated I had to go to school.

The splint made my led huge so I had to borrow some of Sander's jogging pants so wear. I limped into the kitchen only to find my breakfast already made.

On the table lay a plate of eggs and toast with a small piled of what looked like burnt bacon. I not lay under the plate it read:

Enjoy your breakfast. Next time take me with you -Sander

Ps. Sorry about the bacon

I smiled despite the bacon, eating all the food including the bacon that was charred beyond recognition. After eating I slimmed reading the note again before tucking it away in my sweater pocket for safe keeping.

Sander came out of his room a few minutes later fully dresses. I stood up liming over to him. I threw my arms around his neck and kissed his cheek softly. "Thanks." I whispered "I'll take you next time." Sander smirked down at me.

Bailey came around the corner apparently coming out of hiding and yelled loud enough for everyone in the apartment building to hear. "Oooooh! Sander and Rae sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love-." She cut off giggling when Sander and I glared at her. I heard Lexie giggling as she came out of her room fallowed by Jake who looked at us warily around probably making sure their was no K-I-S-S-I-N-G going no. I was absolutely positively sure my face was bright red.

Jake being a good friend spoke up ending all the embarrassment as Lexie and Bailey continued to laugh "Let's go, we're going to be late."

Much to the girl's amusement and to my embarrassment Sander put up a fight to call a cab to drive us to school for my sake. But cabs were expensive and Jake had missed a day of work yesterday taking care of me so I refused to let Jake call one.

All of us walked slower to school, everyone setting their pace to mine. A was constantly asked if I needed a break but I shook my head focusing on walking, not sure if I'd be able to start again, if I'd stopped.

Finally the school was in sight. We had already dropped Bailey off at the Jr. High just down the road, now the four of us were making our way up the pathway to the school.

I leaned against Lexie as she helped me up the steps, my breathing ragged. I kept my head down and hood up as I limped to my locker. I planned on keeping the gash on my cheek and neck hidden for as long as possible since it wasn't possible to hide the limp.

I grabbed my books slamming my locker shut only to find Jason standing there. His easy smile turned into one of horror as me looked at my face. A hurt look passed over my face before I put my head down once again and limped into homeroom.

I was just sitting down when Jason scampered into class and sat in the vacant chair next to me. "I'm sorry." he said looking at me "I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I'm sure my expression wasn't what you wanted to see. It's just... your FACE! What happened Rae?"

My hair hung down covering my face so that Jason wouldn't have to look at me. Gently Jason reached out and tucked my hair behind my ear. "Hey." He said gently "I really didn't mean to hurt your feelings but seriously what happened?" He reached out and entwined our hands. Suddenly his face hardened and he gripped my hand tightly "It was Sander or Jake wasn't it?" He said angrily he started to get to his feet "I'm going to kill them!"
