As a surgeon you fear many things when you operate on someone but the chief fear, the urban legend of surgeon fears, is accidentally leaving something inside your patient. There have been documented cases of it happening; a glove, a sponge, a rag, or a pair of scissors, left inside a person as a surgeon hastily did stitches.

When they wheeled the little ten year old girl into the ER, almost every doctor knew the worst had happened. She'd been in the hospital a week ago to have her appendix removed. Her stomach was now swollen to the size of a melon and she was complaining of a tummy ache.

They quickly paged the doctor who had operated on her, only to find out he hadn't been seen since the surgery. It wasn't as surprising as it was shocking; he'd realized what he had done and instead of coming clean, he had run. Never mind, the child's live was more important. They took her for an x-ray.

'When did you last have something to eat?' a nurse asked the girl kindly.

'I had a little bite right after my surgery' she answered, 'Daddy helped me finish the rest'

The nurse frowned. That was too early to eat and her father ought to have known better. The x-ray started and everyone looking at the screen gasped. The nurse gave the little girl a little pat on her hand to see what the x-ray was showing. A decaying hand, still in surgical gloves was floating in the girl's stomach.

And that's how the world ended.
