Friends and Enemies

Knock.

Ugh… not again!

Knock.

Please, let me stay here! Please, shut up!

Knock.

And so, I take the blankets off of me and open my eyes to find that blurry figure throwing rocks at my window. Now the note pasted on his window perfectly reads “You owe me something. I’ll take you to the diner later. Will be on your count!” My answer to this? Roll my eyes. He’s so bossy sometimes.

Getting ready for school is usually hard for me. I have a really intense relationship with my bed, and he begs me to stay with him every morning, and as much as I want to say I’ll stay, I just can’t. There’s always someone trying to pull us away. This time, the person who I’m cheating my bed with is Antonio. I bet my bed will be pissed when he finds out so when I’m all pretty, I have to fight the urge to lay down with it again. I truly love my bed, but enough it’s enough. I have to go to the world now.

Those are the typical thoughts on my mind during mornings, when I’m walking down the stairs to get a good breakfast. I don’t like getting up early, but I guess I’m thankful for Antonio’s lack of love for his bed, because he’s what keeps me getting up in time for food. See, my second love is the food. The third one is Logan Lerman, but as I recall I told you, it’s like I’m never going to meet him. Ever. So I guess the fourth one is okay for me: Antonio. Talking about Mr. Sunshine, he’s there, sitting at my kitchen’s table, talking to my mom.

“Ah, there you are Miss Run-Away” he says when he finally sees me. I stop in front of him with my eyes opened widely. I don’t know what was I expecting, but definitely, it was not seeing Antonio be too cheerful about it. I thought he would scold me right away. Though I’m not pretty sure I would listen, because today, he looks even cuter than his usual self, wearing a black tee and white pants, messy hair and black Raybans.

“Uh… yeah. I’m here.”

“So… shall we go?” he asks as he gets up from his seat and step closer to me.

“Don’t you want to eat something before?” I point at the dish my mom’s just serving.

“Nah, I’m saving my appetite for that breakfast you’re buying me for ditching me yesterday… and your mother already gave me some food.”

I roll my eyes.

“Whatever jock. I really need my food now, so—”

“So we should hurry” he interrupts me and takes me firmly by the wrist, which, I should tell you, makes me blush a little. Then he proceeds to drag me out of the house and start to run to the bus stop. The school is in front of a diner in which I think Antonio wants me to invite him to. Just as I thought so, once we reach the place, he lets me go.

“Okay… you’re a bit too cheerful to be Antonio” I comment suspiciously. “You definitely are an alien replica left here to act as if you’re him but totally are not and is waiting for the perfect moment to abduct me just as you did with him.”

He stares at me for a second or so and then burst to laughs. Once he stops, he keeps the wide grin in his face as the ghost of that chortle.

“Not quite. I’m just happy.”

“But I ditched you yesterday! You should be cranky or even angry!”

“Do you prefer me being that? I can change my mood if you want me to.”

“That’s not what I mean” I reply as we take our seats.

The diner is almost empty, except for Peter Rush and Alexia Rogers, both from my Literature class. I wave at them the moment they look to see me, and as they wave back, I can’t help but find it odd the way Peter stares at us. He looks… inspired, I guess. I don’t know, his eyes are sparkling.
