*IMPORTANT!!!* From here on out Felipe Knight's name will be permanently changed to Jason Winters. When I finish the book I will go back and change it properly, but for now just know that the character "Felipe" is now called "Jason." Thank you, and enjoy the chapter :)

I never knew that the little red-headed girl I met that summer day in the park would one day mean so much to me. Didn't know she would be my best friend; that she'd be my soulmate; that she'd become my world; I didn't know that I'd fall in love with her. I never thought I'd lose her, but when I did I never expected to get her back.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back in my cell. It was cold, and the metal chaffed against my wrists and ankles making the skin crack and blood to pour out like my arms were crying.

I don't know how long I've been down here... Two weeks? Two months? Two years? It was the same routine day after day, I'd wake up in my prison cell with my wrists and ankles tied together by cold, unforgiving chains. Then the same guard in his black robe and hidden face would come with food and unchain me to let me eat while he awkwardly watched me. When I was finished eating the stale, rock hard bread and a cup of lukewarm water, he'd allow me to relieve myself in a bucket before replacing the shackles on my feet and wrists. After that I'd usually fall back asleep for a couple of hours before the same black-robed guard came back and took me in for more "testing."

I had no idea what they were doing to me anymore. They were knocking me out now before they started the experiments ever since the incident...

*********

When they had brought me in for my second day of testing I knew I couldn't just wait around for them to turn me into a robot.... I had to make it out for Avery. As soon as I saw her, my heart ached. She was Iris now, she's not my Avery anymore... I heard her voice in my head from the previous day, heard her cry, heard the pain in her voice. I got so angry, that I threw both of my chained hands toward Lance with all of my might once he got close enough to me. I heard a satisfying crack and the masked guard behind me immediately tried to stab me with a syringe to put me to sleep, but I stepped backwards and he missed resulting in both of us falling on the floor, rolling and struggling to get a better hold on the other.

I managed to pin him underneath me and slammed his hand that was grasping the syringe onto the ground, breaking the glass and spilling it's contents. His hood fell back uncovering his face. He had eyes unlike any creature I'd ever seen and teeth more like fangs. His eyes were tilted inwards toward his non-existent nose and they were completely black. He had skin the color of a very dark green and it looked rough and scaly. He hissed at me, quite literally, his snake-like tongue flickering in and out of his mouth like a yo-yo.

Before I could respond, one of the ogre-lab-assistants pulled me off of the strange creature and held me, his arms squeezed tightly around my chest keeping me from escaping. Mr. Dace then immediately plunged a syringe into my neck. I let out a muffled scream as I could feel the liquid being injected into my bloodstream.

"I guess it was too much of me to expect you to cooperate," Lanced tsked as he walked over to me, half of his face looked bruised and bloodied from the force of my blow. "Now we must do things the hard way." He was inches away from my face and I could smell his breath as he chuckled and smirked at me.

My vision was fading, my eyelids slowly closing as they got heavier...and heavier...and heavier. I glanced over at Iris who was once my Avery...and the lack of emotion on her face made me feel all the pain I hadn't felt in a long time...it was as if Avery had transferred her emotions to me. I felt broken to see her there; to see how much she didn't care filled me all the more with determination to bring her back...if that were even possible.
