Brandon, Felipe, Stephen, and I walked out of the house and towards the big house in the center of town. More people from other houses joined us as we walked.

"Brandon? Brandon!" A girl's voice called from our left. I turned and saw a petite girl with curly brown hair and brown eyes rush towards us and hold Brandon in a tight embrace. She looked like a pixie, I was almost surprised she didn't have wings sprouting out of her back. She was so short Brandon had to pick her up so she could hug him properly. The girl kissed Brandon on the lips before he set her down.

"Hey, Silvia." Brandon smiled. It was funny to look at them because Brandon was at least two feet taller than Silvia. "How are things at your house?" They continued walking next to us, their hand interlocked.

"Awful," Silvia said, glancing behind her. "That Jessica girl thinks she's the boss just because her mom is the nurse. She thinks she's all high and mighty because her whole family is still alive. She really gets on my neves."

"What did she make you do today?" Brandon asked.

"She assigned all of us chores to do. Chores! Really, it's the end of the world but our windows must always be clean and shiny. As if we don't have enough to do already."

"Well-"

"And to think we used to be friends. Ugh, I can't stand her!"

"Maybe you should give her a break? We're all trying the best we can."

"A break?! That's ridiculous. Brandon, if you lived with her, you'd understand. Oh, but Melissa is worse."

"I thought you said yesterday that you were best friends?"

"Yeah, that was yesterday. Until I found out that she's dating Aaron! That back-stabbing little bi-"

"Aaron? As in your ex, Aaron?"

"Yes, don't interrupt. I saw them kissing at the well today."

"What's the big deal? Melissa can date who she wants. Doesn't mean she's betraying you."

"Ugh, you don't understand."

"Do you still like him?"

"What? Of course not! I'm totally over him now. Besides," -she leaned her head against Brandon's arm- "I love you, Brandon, and no one else but you."

Brandon smiled, "I love you too, but I don't think you should ruin your friendship with Melissa just because of some guy."

Silvia sighed, "Brandon, you just can't understand. Oh-look, there she is now." She pointed out a red-headed girl holding hands with a guy who I'm assuming is Aaron who had short black hair and glasses. I stared at the couple. No, it couldn't be.... Melissa, the red-head, had blue eyes, sparkling blue eyes, and black slits for irises... But Aaron's eyes were just blue, as human as my own. I felt sick to my stomach.

"Ugh, I can't stand to look at them," Silvia continued.

"I know," Brandon committed "Humans and Demins? It's just not right."

Silvia stopped and let go of Brandon's hand, "What are you talking about?"

"Well... uh," Brandon looked slightly confused. "I just think that we should each stick to our own species-"

"You're talking about them like they're animals!"

"They certainly aren't human, are they?"

Silvia's face turned bright red. "You-just-ugh!"

"What did I say?"

"They. Are. People!" Silvia punched Brandon after each word.

"Ow," Brandon said, rubbing his arm where Silvia had punched him. "You punch surprisingly hard for someone so small."
