Chapter 6
VALMONT
I was now fifteen years old.
"Oh, Valmont! Why are you so quiet today?" Aphrodite asked as her fingers moved over the bedside table in my room. "You have hardly said a word today."
She looked over and saw me sitting up in bed. My arms were crossed over my chest. My expression was serious. I didn't feel satisfied by anything around me.
But Aphrodite insisted in trying to get me to talk. Soon she sat down on my bed, beside me but I had no courage to face her. I just listened to the sound of her soft voice.
"Valmont, tell me what is happening."
There was a silence between us. Then I uncrossed my arms and gazed to one side, into her eyes. Her face was free from her hair. It was fixed in a bun on the top of her head. Her beautiful eyes were quite expressive, as always.
"If I tell you everything," I said as I bit my lip. "Do you promise me you will not say anything to anyone?
"Of course." she said and stared at my face. Aphrodite understood that I had something very serious to say to her. "Tell me! What is worrying you?"
I sighed and started talking. "Well, for some years now I've been having some strange...desires."
I glanced away and paused trying to figure out how to phrase what I wanted to say. "But I really don't know why I am having these strange desires."
"Which strange desires?" Aphrodite's hand held my arm and shook it. "You are making me nervous."
At this instant, my eyes met hers and I continued.
"I have begun to take pleasure in seeing human blood."
I went silent as Aphrodite frowned at me. She glanced to the side looking a little confused. She pulled her hand away from my arm. "Seeing human blood?" She asked.
"Yeah." My fingers slid through my black hair and pushed it out of my face. "I confess I am confused by it. I really don't know why I have felt like this, I swear."
"Valmont −" She forced a smile. "Pooh! You shouldn't take it into consideration. I think you are feeling scared about growing up. After all, you are fifteen now − soon you will be twenty-one.."
I interrupted her, touching her arm. She stared up into my eyes but stayed silent.
"That's not it!" My eyes met hers. "I know this is not normal. No-one in their right mind would take pleasure in something like that."
"Where is the logic in it?" she insisted.
My head moved from side to side. I looked down. "I truly don't know."
