Telling is one thing, showing is another. In writing, telling isn't the best way to bring the story to life. Showing will cause a better effect on your readers. It allows them to feel what the character is feeling. If you just tell, the readers will feel like a spectator and will not enjoy the thrill of living through the story.
Telling: May was afraid of the dark.
Showing: As May peeked a glance at the darkness, goosebumps fled her arms and legs and she trembled, desperate to get away from the unknowing shadows.
By showing, you connect the readers with the story and they will be able to 'feel' the emotions the character is feeling.
Happy, Sad, Angry, Fear, Shocked, Surprised, ect. If you use the Telling method, all ways to connect with the ready will be weakened. Telling is making the reader feel that she or he is not in the story and is just watching the story. Being in the story is effective as not only will they understand and feel the character's emotions, but will share the same thoughts and fears as well. The Showing method is the best way to write and engage with your reader.
