I paced back and forth in the waiting room of the police station. "Goddammit, Hope, you're driving me insane!" Carli said. "Stop pacing!" "I'm sorry, Carli!" I said. "You know I pace when I'm nervous! I can't help it!" Tobin stood up and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Thalia's a strong girl, Hope." she said. "She'll be okay. Now, please sit down before Carli kills something." I sat down in the chair next to Carli. The midfielder took my hand, and squeezed it reassuringly. I looked at her, and she smiled. "I love you, Carli." I said. "I love you too, Hope." Carli said. Twenty minutes later, the officer who was in charge of the attempt to rescue Thalia came into the room. I leapt up from my chair. "Did you find her?" I asked. "Is she alive?" "Yes, she is alive." the officer said. "But, regrettably, your mother died in the rescue." "She's not my mother." I said coldly. "Can we see Thalia?" "Yes." the officer said. "She's in the hospital, room 420. She was in critical condition when we found her, but has since woken up and is now stable." Tobin smiled at me. "See?" she said. "I told you she'd be okay."
