This chapter is for Chanelle_1DAF   as she inspired me with her great stories and also she is a nurse so hopefully I have been accurate!!!

Liam pulled up in front of the tall gates protecting Niall's house and leaned out his door to key in the security number that would open the gates to allow him access. He was grateful Harry had remembered he'd need the code and had got it from Mark Jarvis for him. Harry also updated Liam with the information that Niall still hadn't responded to voice mails or texts and that Management now knew about Niall's absence and was giving the lads hell. Liam held his breath as the gates slid open and he drew his car up next to Niall's Range Rover. Liam hopped quickly out of his car and hammered on Niall's door. He had to be in as his car was still here. Liam shuffled impatiently as he waited for Niall to come to the door. And he waited....nothing.  Liam pounded harder on the door, then continually rang the doorbell, shouting Niall's name. Nothing......

Knowing he had to be there, Liam started walking around the outside of the house peering in the windows as he went. Down the side of the house was a large floor to ceiling window that showed the big hallway and Liam glanced in then his heart fell through to his boots. He could see Niall's immobile body crumbled in a heap at the foot of the stairs, his head in a small pool of blood. Liam grabbed a nearby garden chair and banged it hard against the glass, shattering the window. He pulled away some of the glass to gain enough space to enter, badly cutting his hands in the process. Liam raced towards the small, blond Irishman screaming his name. Niall didn't respond and Liam prayed that he wasn't too late, that Niall was alive. Yes, he was breathing...very shallow but still breathing...Liam quickly phoned the emergency services"

"What service do you require?"

"Ambulance. Now. Here. My mate. " Liam screamed down the phone.

"Sir, calm down so we can help you. Please tell us where you are and what the emergency is so we can help"

Liam gave Niall's address in a shaky voice  then " My friend, he's fallen down the stairs. He' s unconscious and bleeding and his breathing is bad"

"OK Sir, stay with him. The ambulance is on the way and I'll stay on the line until they are with you"

"Please hurry" Liam whispered "I'm so scared right now"

"Sir, try and stay calm, they are nearly with you"

"Oh God, he's having a fit. What do I do, help me!"

Just let it happen, Sir. And check his breathing when it stops"

Two paramedics hammered on the door at this point and Liam raced to let them in. He stood shaking and praying as he watched them work over Niall. Suddenly he heard" Cardiac Arrest" and looked in horror as one of the medics started CPR as another prepared the portable paddles to shock Niall's heart.

"Stand clear" Niall's body arched up as the shock went through him. " Nothing,"

"Stand clear' Niall's body arched a second time. "OK, he's back with us. Let's get him to the hospital as quickly as possible. Sir, you can ride with us"

Liam nodded and followed them out as they carefully loaded Niall into the ambulance. Liam barely noticed a few waiting paps who were filming the whole thing. All he could see was Niall's pale, still body. Liam never thought he was a particularly religious man but he was praying hard to whoever was listening. He had never felt so helpless in all his life.

The ambulance pulled out and headed into traffic, sirens blaring, lights flashing,  The paramedic in the back monitored Niall then turned to Liam when he could do no more. He could see Liam was in shock so wrapped a blanket around him then placed some clean gauze over Liam's bleeding hands. "You'll need those looked at when we arrive, sir" he said but doubted Liam even heard or noticed. Liam just stared a Niall with a blank gaze.

It didn't take long to reach the hospital and Niall was swiftly unloaded and rushed into the Accident and Emergency department. Liam followed but was stopped by one of the nurses who asked him for Niall's details, what he knew of the accident, and who Niall's emergency contact was. Liam rambled out the information but in such a disjointed manner. Eventually, the nurse had all she needed and gently guided Liam into one of the bays and told him to stay there until he was seen.

"All done," the pretty nurse said after stitching and bandaging his hands for him. " Now, you go and sit back in the waiting room and I'll see if I can find out how your friend is for you. It may take some time so please try and relax. Get yourself a cup of tea, it will help with the shock. She took Liam back to the waiting room and Liam sat there staring at a TV screen that was quietly showing the 7 pm news.

"This is the Channel Four News at 7 and I am Joanna Watkins"

"It looks like One Direction's Niall Horan has been rushed to St Vincent's Hospital earlier this evening. An ambulance was seen at his home and it appears his bandmate, Liam Payne, accompanied him in the ambulance. We have received no confirmation from Modest, the band's management team and so far have not been able to get a statement from them, Mr. Simon Cowell, or any of the band members. We will update you as soon as we have more information.  Now, here are the lottery results....."

Liam put his head in his hands. Damned paps. The place will be swarming with them at any moment now. Liam jumped as the door crashed open and Louis and Harry tore into the waiting room and engulfed Liam in a tight hug.  "I don't know how he is" Liam said, his voice sounding on the verge of tears. "They rushed him away and wouldn't let me stay with him" It finally got too much and Liam broke down sobbing into Harry's shoulder while Louis patted his back gently.

"Mr. Payne?"

"yes, that's me. Is Niall OK? Can I see him? Please tell me" Liam gasped out.

"Come with me, please. Your friends may come with you if you wish"

The lads all followed the Doctor into a small office and sat as directed, looking at the Doctor in apprehension.

"I won't pretend that Mr. Horan is doing well because sadly, he is a very sick young man. We will do everything in our power but you must understand his condition is extremely serious and he is barely hanging onto his life at this moment.

He sustained some injuries in his fall but they are actually minor in the scale of things. He has a dislocated shoulder, a large cut on his head  and a lot of bruising. Fortunately, there is no internal bleeding. The main issue is that Mr. Horan has had a dangerously high temperature which the body can only sustain for a relatively short length of time. Very high temperatures can lead to brain damage and death. Now, hopefully, we were able to start treatment in time. We have started to try and cool his body down but Hyperpyrexia is  extremely dangerous and hard to recover from."
