Was this new feeling, I had just now realized, true? I didn't know what to do.
"Whoa, you know Emily, maybe I do. Yeah. I think I like him. It's weird to say it out loud."
"Oh My God. I knew it. I called it."
"So yeah"
"Oh don't worry I won't tell him, if that's what you're worried about." assured Emily.
"Yeah thanks."
"You know I'm pretty sleepy, bro. How about we take a little break from your session of observation, and sleep. I mean it's pretty late. Look at the clock! It's 11:34!" Emily exclaimed.
"Yeah I guess we should sleep now."
"Yep."
"Goodnight, Princess bubblegum."
"Goodnight, Finn."
We call each other names when we say good night. I guess it's pretty cute.
Morning came, me and Emily woke up, which was weirdly at around the same time. George and his mom were up and making breakfast for us.
"Oh please miss Katherine we've already put you through a lot of trouble with us staying the night." I said
"Well that's nonsense kids. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." She said enthusiastically.
Miss Katherine was always enthusiastic about everything. Sometimes I wonder what happened to the husband. I'll never get around to asking her, because that would be rude! Although, I do wonder what could have made him leave, if it was that he left. Maybe he died and me asking about him brought back memories to miss Katherine. So it'll be much better to keep that a little thought and just a thought for now.
"George, what are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm helping my mom make breakfast, you know it's called being nice, and not pranking people when they're asleep!"
"Oh yeah we said we're sorry."
"I guess it's okay."replied George.
Maybe since the husband is gone, George has had to fill the space of the man of the house. After all, he was an only child. It was only him and his mom. Facing the world. I sort of sympathize with them. My parents divorced when I was about 7. Now I only have those memories of when they were together.
"Whoa! Here comes the breakfast tray, ready to eat, kids!" Exclaimed miss Katherine.
We all dove right into our breakfast croissant sandwiches and the orange juice George made. Which was pretty awesome. Way better than those things they call sandwiches at the store. These were homemade with love, from George's mom.
"Miss Katherine, you've really outdone yourself this time. These are great!" Emily complimented her cooking.
"Why thank you, Emily. You see, I watch these cooking shows in the mornings. And they have taught me lots and lots of recipes."
"Oh cool, you know I also know how to cook some stuff." Replied Emily.
What she meant by 'cook some stuff' was that she knew how to make quesadillas, hard-boiled eggs, and Jello.
His mom was pretty cool, I guess. Well, to us she's okay. I don't know how she might act when no one's around, you know. Could she be one of those parents who turns into a pain behind closed doors? Maybe. Maybe not. Mine and Emily's parents were cool with us staying last night. I wanted to see how far my parents kindness could go.
"Whoa you know what would be awesome right now in this hot almost summer heat?!" I exclaimed.
"What could that be?" Asked George.
"A large in-ground swimming pool." I said, knowing that Emily had one at her house.
"Huh, you think so? I don't know. I'll have to ask my mom. You guys do too. You only asked for one night over, Adam. George go ask your mom." Replied Emily.
God I hope he'll let me go. I mean it was my idea anyways. The one thing my experience in high school has taught me, is that you only need 3-4 people you sometimes hang out with and those two best friends who would always be by your side.
I might be getting a little off topic, but back to the pool.
"My mom said yeah."
"Mine too." I added.
"Cool, so see you guys there!" Exclaimed Emily.
I walked back home for my stuff. It was surprising how all these years we have lived about a block away from each other but, only in 8th and 9th grade we had met. The walk home was okay. I had my backpack.
When I got home I emptied out my backpack and packed a towel, a shirt, and swim shorts. My Polaroid was just sitting there so I took it, along with an extra pack of film.
As I walked through the front door of Emily's house, I'm very welcome there, I see that it's empty. Aside from Emily in the back, there was no one home. I guess both her parents work or something.
"Hey, I'm here." I said as I walked out through the sliding glass door.
"Cool, you're the first one here."
"Oh George isn't here huh?"
"So what's up with you and him? I mean you like him right? It's so cute!" Emily said as she switched from supporting herself on her right leg to her left leg.
"Yeah I guess I like him. I mean I don't know. It's all just confusing. Maybe I do like him. Just the second only person I've liked in a long time." I replied.
"Well it's okay I mean I don't know how it is with you and him, but I think that you two would look cute together."
"Okay I guess"
We walked into the house and waited for George to arrive.
"Hey what happened to your mom?" I asked.
"Well right now she's working. She comes out at like 9 PM so I guess she won't be bothering us."
"Oh okay, what about your dad?"
"What about him? He left when I was 11. Haven't seen him since."
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't know."
"No it's okay. I never told you so, how could you have known?"
You see? Emily was very understanding.
"Honey, I'm home!" Shouted George as he entered.
"We're out back!"
Me and Emily had our own little lawn chairs out and were waiting by the pool with a third right by us.
"Hey"
