"There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment."
― Sarah Dessen, The Truth About Forever
Chapter 1:
My ringtone suddenly blasted from my cellphone, echoing in the quiet room. I pushed myself out of the bed as I answered it.
"Hello?"
"Aurelia!" I heard a voice whine, "Open your window now."
"What? Why?" I asked.
"Just do it."
I sighed before running a hand through my chesnut brown hair trying to look presentable. But who was I making myself look presentable for? My best friend of seven years, Liam Kells. My best friend who I was In love with for the past seven years. We were practically . He lives in the house next to mine with our windows overlooking each other's rooms.
How cliché.
I mean, who wouldn't fall in love with that guy. Girls practically throws themselves at his feet. With his sparkling blue eyes amd his sandy blonde hair, he was the typical All-American boy who was the school's beloved quarterback.
I opened my blinds, as I felt the scorching sun hit my bare skin. "Liam?"
"Over here." he said. I squinted my eyes trying to look for him in his dark room. I found him searching for something in his closet and he was half-naked. He was shirtless and only in his boxers.
I blushed as I watched his back muscles flex as he was still searching for something. Even though we were best friends I still blush at the sight of him shirtless. Stupid teenage hormones.
He turned and holding two button up shirts in each hand. "What should I wear?" he asked.
"To where?" I said inspecting the clothes he was holding up.
"Don't you know?"
"Don't I know what?"
He sighed.
"We're going with my parent to welcome a new client who's staying at our house until her house is finished"
Liam's parent's are both well-known architects here in Los Angeles.
"Why?" I asked, "doesn't she have any family member who lives here?"
"Beats me," he said as he shrugged on a dress shirt, "All I know that she's an old friend of theirs."
"Why are we going?" I asked hinm, confused.
"Because they have a son our age and they want us to welcome him here."
"I don't see the need for me to go" I whined.
"Just get dressed, lazy bones."
I glared at him before closing the blinds. I grudgingly walked towards the bathroom as I took in my appearance. My chesnut brown hair was a huge bird's nest on my head; My chocolate brown eyes were dull and tired from all of the tossing and turning last night and my tanned skin had a light layer of sweat. All in All, I look horrible.
I stripped off my penguin pajamas and steped into the shower.
When I was done with the shower, I slipped on a white flowy dress and a pair of high heels and started doing my makeup.
After another thirty minutes I was done. I grabbed my purse and proceeded to the Kell's house. Before I could even reach the front porch, Liam was already outside in a blue button up shirt, and some nice slacks, and he was pulling me into his car.
"Hey!" I protested as he pushed me in.
"Sorry," he said not bothering to look at me,"We're already late."
He started the engine and he drove off . I was clutching on the leather seat for my dear life as Liam drove over the speed limit. "Liam! Slow down!"
My warning was a second too late as we bumped into another car. My head almost hit the dashboard as Liam reached out his hand to shield my forehead. I sat there gaping at what just happened. "What happened?" I asked.
"Wait here, Aurelia." he said as he exited the car. I examined the car we hit. It was a sleek black car with tinted windows.
The owner stepped out of his car and I swear, I stopped breathing. He was gorgeous. He had dark brown hair that was messed up perfectly if that was even possible, his eyes were a dark brown with flecks of hazel in it. His face was perfect with high cheekbones and swoshy hair, but he spelled dangerous. Not the 'I will kill you, If you look at me dangerous' but the 'I will break your heart dangerous'. Or maybe a little of both.
I could here screaming outside , before I knew it they were shoving each other around. I opened the car door and ran to the middle.
"Stop it!" I yelled as I tried to push both of them but they were not bulging. Fat oafs.
The hot stranger was checking me out as his eyes raked over my legs before smirking. Liam was still fuming beside me.
"I told you to stay in the car, Aurelia." he hissed.
"You get in the car, Liam."
"But-" he protested as I raised a hand to cut him off. He begrudgingly headed back into the car. "So you're name's Aurelia. My name's Lucas, so what do you say we leave that loser and go and have some real fun?" he said motioning his head to Liam.
I stood there fuming at Lucas he had no right to call Liam a loser. I walked to the part of where the two cars collided as I saw a small scratch on Lucas' car. I rummage into my purse for my wallet as I grabbed a hundred dollar bill. "Now, go and take your car to the shop and leave as alone." I placed the bill on his hand.
I left him there gaping as I climbed Liam's car. He opened his mouth to say something but decided against it. Smart Boy.
We drove to the restaurant in silence. When we arrived the usher greeted us and escorted us to our table. Sitting there was Liam's parents, and woman who was in her late thirties. "Hey mom." Liam greeted his mom with a peck on his cheek and nodded towards his dad. I smiled at the three before taking a seat.
"Francine, this is Liam my son, and Aurelia, his best friend." Mr Kells gestured to us.
"Hello, it's nice to meet y-" I didn't even get to finish my sentence before she grabbed me and pulled me into a tight hug. "Can't breathe" I mumbled.
"Oh, I'm sorry." she said giving me a warm smile. I smiled awkwardly before taking a seat. She hugged Liam before he took a seat next to me.
"So where's your son, Francine?"
"He just texted me. He's outside parking his car."
We sat in silence after that amd as I took a sip of my water, Francine's son was standing on the side of the table and on the spot I started choking. "Are you okay dear?" Mrs Kells asked looking concerned.
I calmed myself down before giving her a tight smile. I glanced at Liam who was sitting there gaping.
Lucas was standing there with his leather jacket and his aviators smirking at us.
