(Tyros POV)
It had been 3 days since we were first attacked. Shadow, Siren squad, Nina, Adeline and myself had come to Firebase Seahawk in Tampa,FL for a moral mission. The usual deal, give a speech, meet the soldiers, all that good stuff. I loved doing these type missions. One because it allowed us to get out of the office, two because I was able to see the joy on the faces of the soldiers as we walked around the base. All good things must come to an end, and soon morters were raining down on us like rain. Ever since then, they've been off and on for 3 days. That and the steady fighting that's created a large open area between us and them. "No mans land."
Shadow and I weren't allowing this to pass us up, and we hit the frontlines. Nina, and siren squad joined us in our push. Adeline wanted to, but I made her stay. Looking back on it, im glad I did. We made a good push, but were soon halted by massive gunfire. We decided to not give up the ground, and instead spent some time digging a large trentch system. Needless to say, it opened us up for more of our forces to move to the trench, but no matter how hard we tried, our numbers and firepower were nothing. They owned the airspace, so no air support, and they owned most of the ground. I believe there were 300+ infantry, 10 tanks, and multiple MG nests all lined up, and ready for us to slip, allowing them to finish us off. It was horrible, but I loved it.
Ill remeber that day forever. The day I watched my friend become a monster. The day he broke. It was a normal day in the trenches. No one wanted to make a move, so it was a stailmate. Shadow, Ace, and myself were sitting around a map discussing our plan to pull out under cover of night. Nina was with Taro and the rest of Siren on one end of the trench, there smiles were signs that they were staying positive. The other dragons in the trench with us were sleep deprived, hungry, and just wanted the stailmate to end, and end it did. A few morters popped off, there whistle roaring through the sky as a few dragons yelled "INCOMMING!"
Everyone hit the floor as seconds later explosions roared out, followed by gunfire. They were making a move for the trench. Instinct kicked in and I went to work issuing orders to combat the threat. In my haze, I noticed Shadow, frozen in place.
"Shadow! Shadow snap out of it, we need to get these men out of here!" I shouted grabbing him. His eyes were locked down the trench toward Nina and Siren Squad. I turned my head to see Nina, her body mangeled from the morter blast that had apparently come down on top of her. She was gone. It was then I noticed Taro who was on his back, he had taken some of the blast and I was unsure of his condition. He seemed to be gone as well, but I couldn't tell. With no words, Shadow began walking toward them. As he reached them, he stopped himself, his head dropped toward the ground and his body shook. Ace had begun rallying his team as dusk began treating Taro. As quickly as it started, Shadows shaking ceased. He reached a paw to the straps on his vest, and undid them. His vest fell to the ground, leaving him completly exposed to hostile fire.
"SHADOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" I shouted as I ran to him. I reached toward him, but a strange feeling halted me before I could grab his shoulder. A feeling of.........hatred. it was so strong, I could physically feel it emit from him. He turned his head and jumped out of the trentch.
"SHADOW!" I yelled trying to go after him, but ace stopped me.
"We can't lose both our commanders!" Ace stated, grabbing my shoulder. He was right, with a growl, I peaked over the trentch to watch what I thought was going to be my friends last few seconds on the world. Boy was I wrong.
He walked toward the enemy, rounds flying past him, striking at his feet, and bouncing toward him. He kept walking, his eyes held a gaze of pure hatred. He wanted to die, but he wasnt going to go as easy as they wanted. One of the Abrahms on the hill lined its gun up with Shadow, a few seconds passing before a loud explosion rang out. The round hit at his feet, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"SHADOW!" I called, feeling that round had taken his life. Seconds later, he appeared from the dust cloud. His paws blazing the ground as he ran at full speed toward the enemies frontline. He jumped, and dodged as he ran, avoiding the rounds fired by the enemy as he did so. Withen seconds, he reached there line, jumping into the air before landing in there trench. From where I was, I could see Shadow rip there forces apart. There dragons stood no chance against him as he killed one after another.
For the first time in my life.......I was afraid. I was bigger than him, stronger than him, yet at this moment I felt afraid of him. His rage had no end to it. He was going to kill all and any that got in his way. My paws were shaking as I watched this dragon, my friend, become a demon. I wasnt the only one though, siren squad was watching, as well as the other dragons in the trench. All had horrified looks on there muzzles, all were watching the demon Razgriz take a physical form. Dragons, humans, tanks, they stood no chance. Shadow tore through them alone. more than 500 enemy forces, abliterated by this one dragon.......by this devil.
With fear still shaking in my bones, I stood and walked out of the trench. My footsteps carrying my toward the carnage that was ensuing a few hundred meters in front of me. As I walked along no mans land, no rounds were fired at me, no member of the enemies forces even cared I was their. I could hear the screams and gunfire as I walked. They were the worst sounds ive ever heard. A man screaming before his scream was replaced by a snap and ripping flesh, followed by flying body parts. What was Shadow?
As I reached the enemies trench, I looked over it to see Shadow and a few dragons he was fighting directly in front of me. I watched him rip a dragons head off in seconds before attacking the next one. The dragon fired at Shadow to try and stop him, but he simply dodged the rounds, opening his neck with a well placed paw. The dragons blood spew from the gash as Shadow kicked him into one of the two remaning dragons. The one who caught his friend fell and Shadow made quick work of them, ripping off the living ones bottom jaw before promptly crushing his skull. The last dragon was backing away slowly, shaking heavily as he did so.
"Please......." she said in a shaky voice as Shadow turned to him and began walking in his direction.
"Kill me." Shadow growled in a voice so deep and anger filled, I didnt even think it was his.
"FIRE!" Shadow roared before leaping at him. The dragons weapon rang out as shadow took her to her back.
"Why did you miss......" he growled
"WHY DID YOU FUCKING MISS!!" He roared before crushing that dragons skull, her body violently thrashing below shadow, before seconds later going motionless. I stared at my friend, horrified at what I had just witnessed. Shadows white scales were coated with the blood of the hundreds of dragons he had just killed. Everything was silent. I looked around the trench, down both long alleyways to see if anything was alive. There was no moviment. Everything was silent. Shadow had killed.....no.....murdered them all. The tanks were motionless, the humans at the MG nests were torn to shreds, along with the dragon Infantry. 300+ enemy forces had been slaughtered.......by one dragon.
Shadow lifted his head and roared to the sky. I could hear the pain in his tone. He agony in his roar. As he finished, he fainted. I watched him fall to the ground, looking at him with shaking paws.
"Shadow.........what have you become?" I whispered to myself as Ace appeared at my side. He looked around, horrified at the carnage.
"Shadow......he did all this without a weapon?" Ace said shakingly as all but Dusk and Taro from his squad appeared.
"Ace, take your team and check for survivors." I ordered, knowing there were non.
"Yessir." He said shakingly before splitting his team to search.
"Shadow, what have you become?"
