I grasped the antique handle of the historic library. the wooden door spewed dust as light flooded into the dark void.

"Hello?" I blurted, expecting my lab group to be somewhere in the building.

"Shhh!" the young librarian hushed me from behind the chipped wooden desk. her blonde hair and facial features suggested she was merely in her late twenties. though her attire implied an older aged mother, a business suit, which looked quite uncomfortable for sitting in a library all day.

I ambled over to the spiral staircase and began making my way up, hauling my heavy backpack weighed down with textbooks and supplies.

as I reached the top, his usual quiff popped out from behind a computer. (character name) stood up and greeted me with a warm smile.

"the others will be here soon," he muttered and began looking through the shelves of ongoing books.

I began helping in the search, "Any topic we're looking for specifically?"

"Nah, anything really, that seems interesting. we'll make our final judgement once we have our ideas together."

"Hey guys!" a cheery voice exclaimed from the staircase I had recently climbed up.

I diverted my attention to (character name) and behind her (2 other characters). they set their things down and began helping as well.

we piled books of things that seemed interesting on the marble countertop that sat in the middle of the room. the next two hours were spent cracking jokes and getting to know eachother.

I knew everyone that was in our group for biology. I was relatively friendly with all of them, though they weren't my best of friends.

suddenly, my attention was thrown to a jewel that caught light and flashed into my eye.

"what's this?" I whispered to myself.

I slid the book off the shelf and blew the layer of dust off that covered the title.

a sticky note covered the front of the book, but the handwriting had worn off making the words unreadable.

"guys, what's this?" I said louder this time, grabbing their attention.

they crowded around me, seeming to have the same questioning thoughts I had.

I flipped the first page over and carefully read the faded text.

'There's no going back now,'
