I let him drag me out of the library. Jared seemed nicer than everyone else here, so I figured I let him have a chance. Hey, I just ranted out to this guy whom I barely know, and he didn’t think I was weird or anything like that. That, is serious skill.
Deep down, I knew I was blushing. I just couldn’t show it right now. His hand was holding onto mine firmly, but not to the point where it hurts. It was actually really nice, to be honest. A curtain of long hair had concealed my face, thank god. At the same time, I couldn’t see where I was going, no thanks god. I really didn’t know where I was going, and I was literally tripping over my own feet. For all I know, he could be leading me to some dark room. And everybody knows that dark, mysterious rooms were only good for one thing.
“W-where...” My voice shook, and I tried to steady it.I tried to brush some hair out of my eyes, but with no luck. “Are you taking me?”
Jared chuckled, “You’ll see. Just a minute.”
I gasped as his hand gripped mine, and another around my waist. Jared hoisted me up what seemed to be a flight of stairs.
“Okay... Almost there... Just keep walking upwards, alright?” His voice was warm near my ear. Everything sounded like it was leading up to a heck of a rape attack, and finally, my instincts kicked in. I balled my free hand into a fist, just in case if I needed to let it fly.
Jared let go of my hand, and I swiped my limp hair to the side. I gasped, I was on the school roof, and it was covered in green. A neatly paved path cut through the lush green lawns, and pots of flowers and plants hang just about everywhere. “T-this.. This is amazing.” I kicked off my shoes and let the grass tickle my bare feet. I could feel a gentle breeze blowing over, ruffling leaves on the little grove of trees. I made my way over, completely forgetting that Jared was behind me.
“Thanks for showing me this.” I turned, Jared’s brown eyes widened in shock and I smiled. He grinned back. “No problem. This-” he gestured all around him. “Is my little place. And I figured I would let you in. This is where you’re always welcome, where no one can judge you. And its true, it’s okay not to have any friends here, not everyone here is exactly friend material either.”
I gaped in shock, I could have sworn he was just a typical jock... But I guess you really can’t judge a book by its cover. “Y-yeah... I know... I’m a total nerd. I just... you know... I don’t want anyone to know that, alright? So you seriously can’t say a word.”
I smiled, “I promise I won’t.”
His eyes gleamed once again, “Pinky promise?” He held out a pinky.
I laughed, “Pinky promise.” I wound my little finger around his.
