Caspar's POV*
*pov- point of view.

I sat in the hallway on a bench outside of Joe's dad's hospital room. Joe had gone outside for some air, as hospitals make him pretty uncomfortable. he asked me to wait incase Reilly came out.
Reilly.
I had just met her two days ago, but I felt a draw to her. i felt as though I had to protect her and watch out for her.
probably because she's joe's younger cousin.
They were all under so much stress lately, I felt helpless.
so I waited for her.
She stumbled out of the room with a blank expression. I watched as she clutched her chest and fell to the floor in defeat.
she began shaking.
I rushed over to her. I didn't say a word. I just pulled her into my arms and began drawing circles on her back.
eventually, her muscles relaxed and she lifted her head. she gave me a small smile.
"thanks, caspar." she said.
"come on, let's get you something to eat." i said, helping her up. she nodded.
we went to the hospital cafeteria and ate cardboard flavoured pizza and she was hesitant at first to talk to me. she was shy, quiet, reserved.
she often avoided eye contact, but when her sparking blue eyes met mine, I wish they'd never leave. they felt so comforting.
"so Reilly, please tell me a little about yourself." i said, volunteering the conversation starter.
we chatted for what seemed like hours, when my phone rang. it was Joe.
"where've you guys gone off to?"  He asked, sounding slightly worried.
"just in the cafe, we needed some food." i answered reassuringly.
"would you mind taking her out? Zoe just showed up, and she's asked me to stay with her. she'll drive me home later. you two can take my car."
"sure, cheers." i said, hanging up.
I told Reilly of Joe's request, and she nodded.
"I need to get my mind off things, anyways."
"Brilliant," i said, standing up. "I know just the way to do that."
-------
we drove outside the city, about 45 minutes. She kept asking where we were off to, but i insisted it remain a secret. she finally quit persisting, instead she grabbed my auxiliary cord and plugged in her phone.
seconds later, one direction's 'midnight memories' blasted through the speakers. i smiled and turned it up.
We were dancing in the car, singing out of tune, and I looked over at her, smiling a real smile, the first of which I'd seen this whole
time I've known her.
We finally arrived at the location.
"is this a beach?" she asked, seeming slightly confused.
"exactly! I found this place one day when I felt homesick. i drove for a while and got lost, and ended up here. I sat at the shore for hours. now whenever I feel lost or homesick, i come here." i confessed.
"It's lovely." she said, jumping out of the car.
we spent the next hour collecting broken twigs and sticks, and lit a fire on the beach. we sat in silence for a while, watching the flames burn and crackle. it felt comfortable.
she stood up and wandered off. i trailed behind her, not wanting to intrude her thoughts. she walked the length of the dock, took off her shoes and stuck her feet in the water. i mimicked her actions, doing the same. I laid down beside her, our feet splashing water, and asked her what she was thinking.
"the clouds. it's been dark here for the last three days. that's my favorite part of England. it's always melancholy. it brings me at peace. it matches how I really feel." she said.
I liked that she said exactly what she was thinking, it's not a common thing for the girls in my life to be so straightforward.
I looked at her. she looked at me. and before I knew it, she placed her lips on mine.
