A New Friend or Foe?

My eyes fluttered open and the first thing that I saw was my bedroom ceiling. I'm in my room. The sun was completely up and the air is warm meaning it's already sometime in the afternoon.

I clutched my head in my hands and remembered how Nick was helping me up the stairs before I passed out. I don't know why I suddenly felt so weak at that time. I was happy and energetic then I felt tired all of sudden when I wore that stupid necklace. The necklace.

My hand darted to my chest and felt for the necklace only to touch my skin. I'm not wearing the necklace anymore. Nick must've took the necklace off of me.

I quickly got up and took off the dress that I still have on and changed into some lady's boxers and a white shirt. I headed downstairs to find Nick inside the kitchen, cooking something.

"Hey. Where's grandma?", I hugged him from behind and he was almost startled by me.

"Oh, you're awake. Your grandma went back to the other town to take care of some things. How are you feeling?", he turned to me and kissed my forehead.

I brushed my hair away from my face and smiled, "Fine, I guess. I don't really know what happened to me earlier."

"You know, you're starting to have a habit of fainting. I guess I have to always be by your side in case you pass out again.", he chuckled at himself.

I lightly punched his arm and he chuckled some more. "Hey, did you took my necklace off? I'm not wearing it when I woke up."

"Yep. That necklace really gives me the creeps. I don't think you should wear that thing, Mones. There's something strange about that necklace and when I took it off of you and touched the pentagram pendant, it almost burned my hand. It's hot. Scorching hot.", Nick looked truly afraid and worried at the some time.

I was stunned at what Nick said. I know that the pentagram was warm but not to the point where it would burn your skin. I ran upstairs to look for the necklace and found it on the floor next to my bed. Why do things always end up close to my bed?

The pentagram was glowing red and smoking, like someone put it over a fire for hours. I was afraid to approach it and something tells me that this is not good. But still, curiosity got the best of me and I inched forward to the pentagram pendant with my hand reaching out for it. As I inch closer, my breathing became heavier and the room temperature seem to have risen up a couple degrees making my whole body sweat with fear.

My hand is hovering over the pendant when the door swung open and I suddenly have to withdraw my hand and glanced nervously at the door.

"Hey, your grandma left another present for you. Wanna check it out?", Nick asked as he leaned on the door frame.

I gave a swift look at the pendant, seeing that it is no longer glowing. Looking innocent and still. I looked back at Nick and nodded as I stood up and ran to him and hugged him tight. Fearing the necklace and what would've happened if I touched the pentagram pendant.

"Woah someone's touchy today.", a smile played on Nick's lips as he pulled away to look at me.

I forced to make myself look unafraid and okay and gladly, it worked. Nick didn't suspect that there is something wrong that's happening to me.

Nick cleared his throat and impatiently waved me out of my bedroom.

"Oh yeah, grandma's present.", I tried to sound excited except excitement is the last thing I'm feeling right now. Glancing back at the necklace sitting on my bedside table, the pendant is still on yhe floor, before going downstairs almost made me trip and fall if it weren't for Nick who swiftly caught me and steadied me while a teasing smirk rises on his face.

I regained composure and bounded down the stairs, clearly distracted and uninterested.

A small black box with a red ribbon on top is on the kitchen counter. Next to it is a hand written note from my grandma. I flipped open the note with irritation because of grandma's bizarre first gift. What else could she possibly give me this time? I wonder if this next gift is as terrifyingly hair raising as the necklace.

I tossed aside the note, not reading it even if I opened it, and opened the box. Inside the box is a black leather bracelet with symbols that I'm not familiar with.
