After breakfast, Nick and I went to the garage to get his motorcycle. When the garage door opened, my jaw dropped to the floor. His bike is so beautiful. It's metallic black and the plate at the side says "Harley Davidson". I went over to the motorcycle and stroked it like a dog. What? It's pretty.
"It's a Harley XR1200X.", Nick looked at me with amusement as I marvel at his motorcycle like a 5-year-old.
"Well, I don't know anything about motorcycles but this, this is beautiful.", I looked up at Nick, smiling like an idiot. " Where did you get this anyway?".
" It's a present from Mom and Dad. You know how they are. Just want to give me everything. Dad picked this out for me. They're the best.", Nick chuckled.
I suddenly felt lonely. I haven't been with my parents for so long. I miss them so much. Mom and Dad may be a pain in the ass but they are the best and they love me so much more than their own lives. I still can't believe they were gone. Just like that.
Nick must've felt my sudden silence because he cleared his throat and said " Wanna take a ride with me? To clear your thoughts just for a little while." He snaked an arm around my waist and pulled me close. I smiled at him and nodded my head.
Nick handed a black and blue helmet and I strapped it on. Safety first right. I climbed onto the motorcycle and wrapped my arms around Nick's torso. He started up the bike and nodded at me. I nodded back. Then he started to rev up the motor and we were now heading out to nowhere.
I rested my head on Nick's back. This feels good. I feel free. I like it this way. It's as if all the problems in my life is gone. Like all the scary shit didn't even happen to me. I feel the breeze crashing on my face. I closed my eyes and just melt into the moment. I just stayed that way for a few minutes. I felt the motorcycle came to a halt and a cold breeze swept over me.
I opened my eyes and saw that we were now inside a secluded area. Probably next to the forest. A small cabin is standing a good ten feet away from the falls. Wild flowers and different kinds of plants surround the area. This is so amazing. The view was breath taking.
"Do you like it?", Nick asked while getting off the motorcycle.
"I love it, Nick! This is so beautiful! How did you know this place?", I also got down and undo my helmet straps, setting the helmet on top of the seat.
"My dad built this place when I was a kid. It's our secret hideout as he calls it. We use this place whenever mom throws a fit or when she's not home yet.", he chuckled. " Come on."
He took my hand and we walked to the front door. When Nick opened it, I was really impressed. It was very neat and tidy. There's a couch in the centre of the room and a faux bear fur carpet is on the floor. Everything is varnished wood. The walls, the floors and the doors. A door to the left has a sign that says "Nicky's Room", the letters painted in different colours, so I assume that's his room. I wasn't clearly expecting this. I was expecting a lot of clutter and beer bottles everywhere because, you know, they're boys. But somehow, they managed to keep the place clean.
I walked inside with Nick following me and saw a mini fridge and a cooler. I opened the fridge and saw packs of food like turkey sandwiches, hotdogs, marshmallows and a few boxes of chocolates. I closed the fridge and opened the cooler to see bottles of beer and some juice. Wow. They also got supplies. I glanced quickly at Nick who's got a sly smile across his face.
I grabbed a few beer bottles and sat down on the carpet next to the chimney. It's a little chilly here cause the trees block most of the sunlight and the cold air filling the room from the breeze caused by the waterfalls. I patted the spot next to me and Nick sat down. I handed him a bottle and he eyed me suspiciously and said " You don't drink, right? How come you want to drink now?"
"Come on, Nicholas. I'm not a kid anymore okay. I do drink. I just don't often do.", I winked at him and he gasped at my revelation. Deal with it lover boy. I do drink.
I twisted the cap off my bottle and drank a bit then looked at Nick who gulped half of his drink. Wow, he looks like a heavy drinker.
We had quite a few drinks by now and the sun was setting. Nick is wobbling a little bit cause he drank more than I did. Looks like we won't be going home till tomorrow since I don't know how to drive a frigging motorcycle. I looked at Nick and he is also looking at me. We kept on staring at each other for what felt like hours.
Nick broke his gaze and closed in on me. He leaned onto me and gave me a heart melting kiss. I closed my eyes and sparks flew deep within my stomach. Nick pulled away, leaving me longing for more. I grabbed his head and pulled him into a deep passionate kiss. He held onto me tightly and doesn't seem to want to let go. We kissed for what seemed like hours when we pulled away from each other. Both gasping for breath.
I stared into Nick's eyes and ran my fingers through his hair and whispered " I love you, Nicholas Coulton."
"I love you too, Monalis Heath.", he smiled at me and before we knew it, we crashed on the carpet. Falling asleep in each other's arms.
------The Next Morning------
I woke up with a killer hang over. I rubbed my head and looked for the bathroom. Stupid, stupid beer.
I eventually found the bathroom and saw a medicine cabinet and immediately opened it, looking for aspirin. I found a few and popped two tablets then drank water. I exhaled and felt alcohol still running through my veins. This is why I don't drink too much.
I went out the bathroom and decided to go to Nick's room. I sneak past him so he wouldn't wake up and eventually got into the room. When I turned around I almost laughed out loud. There were pictures of Nick everywhere. Baby pictures. They were adorable. A single bed is in the center of the room and a study table with a chair is standing next to the bed. A closet is at the corner of the room. On top of it are a few board games like Battleship and Scrabble.
As I was walking to grab one of the pictures, a loud thump made me jump. I turned around and saw that the Scrabble game fell from the cabinet. Now, the letters are all scattered on the floor. I sighed and cursed cause woodland animals clearly made the game fall from the closet.
As I was about to pick up the pieces, I read the letters that are arranged neatly. I gasped and almost cried. It said 'HELP US PUMPKINICKEL'. I fell down to my knees. Too stunned to speak. I felt numb. My parents are the only ones to call me 'pumpkinickel'. Nobody else called me that. Not even grandma or Nick. Just them.
I ran out of the room and crashed myself into Nick who is spread-eagled on the carpet. Good thing he drank so much that my sudden appearance didn't even disturbed his deep slumber.
What the heck was that? Does this mean I still have a chance to see my parents? Even a teeny-tiny chance? Even if they are ghosts and could possibly be the ones that are haunting me?
I shivered at that thought and whimpered into Nick and wept. I cried and cried until I fell asleep again with only thing in mind.
Are my parents still with me?
