 ‘Ugh- I hate mornings.’

She groaned loudly and slammed a nearby pillow on her face, and turned to her side, moaning.

‘SOFIA!’ came a shrill voice from the lower floor, breaking her moment of silence. ‘It’s breakfast time! Get down here!’

BANG!

Sofia jerked up, turning to the direction of the banging of the door.

She sighed.

‘Get out of bed! Now!’

‘Hail to the matron.’ Sofia muttered, pushing the blanket off her, shutting her ears mentally from her mother’s exaggerated rants. ‘Can I skip school today?’

‘…not waking up early! When would you grow up…!”

‘Morning mom,’ she mumbled as she walked out of her room, grabbing loosely her striped towel. ‘And I won’t be taking breakfast today.’

The ranting stopped. Her mother followed her down the corridor, shutting her mouth temporarily to look at her daughter who’s now grabbing a toothbrush in the bathroom. ‘It’s not going to help your ulcer you know, not taking breakfast.’

Sofia stared blankly at the rushing water out of the tap as she thought of the random things that ran around in her mind. She lazily let her thoughts linger around school, computer and then back to school as she stripped her clothes off to soak in the water after washing her mouth off.

“…flying, there’s not a star in heaven that we can’t reach…”

She hummed happily as she sang the Highschool Musical theme song, tapping her foot on the tiled floor which is flooded with water now. She ran through her routine slowly, throwing away the fact that she might get late again for the nth time for her first day of school.

‘…so we’re breaking free… Ooohhh ohh-‘

‘HEY! OPEN UP!’

Three knocks on the door interrupted her singing. She turned the tap off, groaning angrily.

’WHAT?’ she called out.

‘Get out!’ a girl’s voice sounded outside. ‘I’m getting late for school.’

She sighed once again and grabbed the towel from the peg to wrap it around her. She grabbed the door knob and pulled it, revealing her little sister waiting impatiently with her own towel.

‘This is the last time you’d be knocking me out of the bathroom, Ayesha.’ Sofia said patiently to her little sister.

Ayesha rolled her eyes and pushed herself in the bathroom. ‘Whatever.’

Sofia dragged her feet all the way back to her room, suppressing her frustration. It’s already noisy outside her house. Dusty sunlight flowed into her room as she sat on the bed, her hair trickling down her back. She grabbed her uniform after putting her garments on then buttoned down her blouse.

‘Who’s not getting late these days, huh?’ she muttered, zipping her blue skirt up and hastily pulling the brush through her wet hair. The droplets blotted on the khaki colored part of her blouse without her noticing it. She faced herself at the mirror and groaned.

‘Too skinny…’ she mumbled disappointed, grabbing her blue bag from the bed. She pulled her white socks to her feet and pushed her new black shoes in. ‘Here I come school…’

She ran out of the room and sprinted down the stairs.

‘I’m going!’ she shouted to the people around the dining table and dashed out of the house. She exhaled. ‘Good luck Pia.’
