Chapter Two- No more tears

Dally put Jenny down half way down the street checking for Darry. "Okay kid let me tell you something"

"What?" Jenny asked confused "Darry's as tough as nails, you don't want a guy like that"

"But I want a guy like you Dallas Winston?". Dally took a drag on his cigarette "I'm saying maybe Darry's not the best for yeah"

"Who said I was interested in Darry?"

"Come on man, you two don't take your eyes off each other".

"Is this Dallas Winston caring about someone else?" He shrugged "Darry'a going to kill me if we wait out here for much longer", he turned his back letting Jenny jump on giving her a piggyback ride.

Jenny got dressed for work the next day. There was still some rain residue on the trees falling onto her roof. "Where were you last night?" Her father slurred as she walked into the kitchen "I didn't go anywhere pops" Jenny said grabbing her shoes. "I know you've been seeing them boys out in the streets every night it rained!" He yelled "dad you're drunk go to sleep" she said before walking out.

"Right over there Jenny" Ms.Smith said Jenny lugged the heavy bag of soil over to where Ms.Smith had instructed. There was loud talking and the backyard door opened men piled into the backyard. Jenny knew one all too well Darry strode in, it must have been his roofing company "oh good you boys are here" Jenny continued to work her butt off.

"Jenny is just helping me get the garden in shape, she has talent"

"Not talent Ms.Smith, just" Jenny picked up a heavy pot of soil "following your instructions". Jenny walked up the stairs Darry watched as Jenny worked "can you get this done by tonight?" Ms.Smith asked hopefully "yeah we can" Darry's buddy said "oh good, Jenny! Plant the daisies!"

"Yes ma'am!" Jenny called as the boys headed up stairs where Jenny was.

One a Darry's friends strode up to her "hey there" he said "hi" Jenny simply replied working on the daisies. "Are you free on Friday?" Jenny laughed "not to you' there was "oh's!" From the boys as the guy walked away. Darry walked up to her "sorry about that

"No problem Darry, are you and the boys still coming tonight?"

"Yeah wouldn't miss it for the world" Jenny smiled. "Well I got to go see you tonight"

Jenny bit her lip nervously the show was about to start and she didn't see the boys. "Come on let's go!" Her boss ordered, there was cheering and 'whoops!" Heard throughout the diner. Jenny stepped up to the microphone with her guitar in hand, she sat down on the bench. Before she put her guitar strap over her head the boys appeared she smiled before strumming. Her fingers glided around the strings, just playing, she then began to sing.

It was an old song by the Inkspots. Every time she stopped singing she smiled then started again. Darry's eyes were stuck on Jenny as she preformed when she was done she bowed walking off.

The boys waited listening to the boring performances by other people "hey guys" Jenny whispered just as the last performance ended. "Girl you know how to sing!" Steve yelled grabbed her and pulling her outside where all the boys ran out too. They whistled and hollered as Jenny was carried by Steve. He put her down she smiled "all those other acts sucked compared to yours!" Sodapop said Jenny smiled. "Let's hang at your place" Steve said to Sodapop, Darry grabbed Jenny giving her a piggyback as the boys walked towards the house. It was generally a long walked.

"Have you heard anything from Ponyboy?" Jenny whispered in Darry's ear as he piggybacked her down the street. "Dally says they're in Texas"

"Pony's smart he'll come back"

"But he never uses his head". Jenny jumped off his back and walked in front of him stopping his walking. "Sometimes but when it comes to family Pony knows hell he knows better then me" Darry sighed Jenny kissed his cheek "come on let's go, Two-Bit will think Lord knows what" she joked. Darry gave her another piggyback to their house.
