I wake up the next morning to find myself laying in Derek's bed, his arm wrapped around me. He is still sleeping. I look at the clock. It reads ten thirty. I get up and go into his bathroom. I wash my face and go to the bathroom. I come back into his room and see him, awake.
"Hi" I say, my voice sounding strained.
"Hey, are you alright S?"
"Well besides an almost purple eye, which I can now open, and a giant scratch on my arm, I'm totally fine."
He laughs.
"I knew you were in there somewhere."
"Would you come with me to my room. I'd rather not go alone."
"Alright. I gotta get dressed first though."
"K."
I grab my clothes from yesterday and leave the room, Derek following with his hands on my shoulders.
We get to my room and Angela exits.
"Hi bab-"
"No, Angela!"
"What is it, Derek?"
"Look at what you did to her. Get out of the way!"
She moves and Derek and I go into my room. He sits on my bed and I go into the bathroom with my clothes to get changed. Today I wear light blue jeans with a light orange t-shirt and a very bright blue and yellow flannel. My hat matches the flannel and has a small Nike logo on the back. I brush my hair and again, leave it down.
"Alright lets go." I say as I exit the bathroom.
"K."

We walk down to the cafeteria to meet James for breakfast. Most girls wouldn't go out in public with this on their face, but not me, I like it. It's a battle scar.
James runs up to me as we come down the stairs. He puts his arm over my shoulder.
"Are you okay, Serena?"
"I'm fine."
"Who did this to you?"
Derek walks behind us. I spot Angela who scowls at me while she sits at a table with girls I don't know.
"Angela."
"Serena tell me you didn't stay in a room with her last night."
"Uhm..."
"You did, didn't you?"
I look at Derek who is now to the right of me. He shakes his head as if to say "no." We sit down at the table and eat quickly.
"I... I didn't know where else to sleep. I got the nurse though and I'm fine, okay?"
"Alright, if you say so."
"Thanks."
"Hey, are you busy tonight?"
"Ya. I have to go to get a new roommate so..."
"Oh okay."
"Sorry."
"Don't worry, it's fine."
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow, I guess."
"Ya. Tomorrow."
"Bye."
"Bye."
I get up from the table and walk towards my room. I decide to look at the other little carved heart
SP+DT
Serena Porter and Derek Tompson? No.
I walk in my room to see Angela sitting on her bed, crying.
"Serena?"
"What, Angela?"
"I'm..I am so sorry. I don't know what came over me, I mean you guys have been best friends for your whole life, and, I should have been kinder."
"Ya you could have."
"Will you ever forgive me."
"I don't know. Bye."
"No Serena don't-"
I shut the door. We can do whatever we want at this time so I decide to watch Derek's football practice. I walk down the stairs through the cafeteria and outside onto the fields. I sit on a bench and watch all the boys playing.
"Hi Serena" it's a girl I had met name April.
"Hi April."
"I'm so sorry for what Angela did. We kicked her off the squad."
"That explains a lot."
"What do you mean?"
"She was crying when she apologized to me and I thought she really meant it but I guess she only said it so that I could convince you to let her back on the squad."
"Oh."
"Ya."
"So if you want to you can stay in my room tonight. I don't have a roommate and I have an extra bed."
"I might. Thanks."
"Okay. Just tell me at dinner if you want or not."
"I will." We hug and she leaves.
