Finding Serena

A New Beginning

I hear a knock at the door. April smiles.
"Ooh! The boys are here!"
I stand up as April opens the door. Derek and Andrew both walk in. Derek looks at me in shock.
"Serena... you look.... beautiful."
"And Derek, you look very handsome."
I stand up and kiss him.
"April, you ready to go?"
"Ya. Lets go."
We get in Andrew's car. He drives and April sits next to him. Derek and I sit in the back seat.
"April?"
"Ya S?"
"Where are we even going?"
"To dinner."
"Okay."
We sit quietly for the rest of the ride. We finally get to the restaurant. It's not just a restaurant though.
It's a giant boat that you can eat dinner on.
"April! How can you afford this?"
"I do have a job ya know."
"Oh."
We walk onto the boat and sit at a table. I feel the boat start to move. Its amazing. The tables and chairs all have nice cloths on them. There are beautiful chandeliers on the ceiling. I have never been any place this nice.
We order out food and it comes twenty minutes later. We talk and laugh about a bunch of things. It was really fun.
"So," I start, "one time when me and Derek were really little."
"Oh no not this again."
"He went to the bathroom in math class and an hour went by and he hadn't come back. The principal came into class and asked for me and they told me that he locked himself in the stall so I had to talk him out."
April starts laughing.
"You had to talk him out of the stall."
"Ya I said 'Derek you gave to come out of there' and he said 'No, Mrs. Nickel is too mean.' He hated Mrs. Nickel."
"Ya that teacher was terrible."
We talked for another hour and then we left.
We got back to the dorms and me and April walked back to her room.I took out my hair and so did she. I walked into the bathroom and took off the dress and put on my pink pajama top. I hate pink but I do look good in it. I wear plaid pajama pants and comb my hair. I walk out of the bathroom.
"Ah man! I'm exhausted."
"Me too, Serena. So you can sleep on that bed over there."
"Okay. It's in the same place as my old room. Cool."
"Serena, I was thinking."
"Ya?"
"If you want to move into this room, you can."
"Sure."
"Yay! I was hoping you'd say yes."
"Alright. So, mall tomorrow?"
"Ya."
"Well, goodnight."
"Night."
We lay down and fall asleep.
The next morning I wake up and go straight in the bathroom and look in the mirror. I put on a black tank top with jeans and my black sneakers. Today I don't wear my flannel or my hat. I look like a girl. Wow. I part my hair to the side and comb it down.
"Serena?"
"I'm in here."
I walk out of the bathroom.
"Hey."
"Hi."
"We have practice today right?"
"Ya."
"Cool. I'm excited."
"Me too."
April goes and gets changed.
"Ready to go to breakfast? We're going to sit with the squad."
"Ya, lets go."
We go down to breakfast and sit with the four other cheerleaders. One of the girls named Kelsey looks at me.
"So Serena you've decided to join the squad. Well, this is Emily, Kaitlyn and Mikayla."
"Hi" I say.
"April did you order her uniform?"
"Yep."
"Okay. When will it be here?"
"Tomorrow."
"Great. We don't where uniforms at practice."
I smile.
"Perfect."
We finish eating and walk onto the field for role call. I stand next to April.
"I thought the squad would be bigger than this."
"Ya. I did too but, it's not that big. Only six of us."
"Oh."
Kelsey does role call and we practice.
"Serena?"
"Ya, Kelsey?"
"Well you told April you could do a flip."
"That I can."
"Do you want to be at the top of the pyramid?"
"Yes. That sounds cool. So, what do I do?"
"Well Mikayla, Kaitlyn and I stand on the bottom and hoist up Emily and April. Then, we help you get on top of their hands. Then you do a flip off of the top."
"Sounds like fun."
"Great."
We practice the pyramid and the rest of the routine but the pyramid was the most fun. Me and April hop into my car to go to the mall. We get there and go to McDonald's in the food court. We walk into Old Navy, American Eagle and Aeropostale to get a bunch of clothes. Then we go to Payless to get two pairs of converse, one pair in pink and the other pair in mint. I already owned the black ones.
Our last stop was at a place called Charming Charlie's to get a bunch of jewelry. We get back in the car with exactly 60 bags. Twenty five were for her and thirty five were for me.
"April that was so much fun."
"Ya, it was."
We finally get back to the dorms.
"Do we have practice again tomorrow?"
"Ya. You should wear shorts for later today. I heard that it is going to be hot out."
"Alright. I'll wear one of my new outfits then."
"Yay!"
I walk into the bathroom with clothes in hand. I put on a pair of light blue jean shorts and a light pink tank-top. I put on my new pink sneakers and put my hair up into a ponytail. I wear a necklace that Derek bought me a few years ago. It is a circle with crystals on the rim and and S on the inside part of the circle. I walk out.
"Serena you look beautiful."
"Thanks. Lets go to lunch. I'm starving."
"Me too."
I realized that the rest of the day played out just the same as the at night before. When we get back to the dorm we just chat and go right to sleep. I wake up to a knocking at the door so I get up and open it.
"Yes?"
"Hi my name is Summer. I have a cheerleading uniform for Serena Porter. You know her?"
"I am her. I didn't think this was coming until tomorrow."
"It wasn't supposed to but we had so many things that needed to be delivered tomorrow that we just delivered so today. Here ya go."
Summer hands me the package.
"Thanks."
"You too! Have a nice day!"
"Okay bye."
I close the door. This is going to be a long weekend.
