《Alex》

My eyes study the messy scribbles on the receipt as I hold another cigarette to my lips as I walk home to Paul and Linda's. I contemplate on whether or not to just text the boy, he seems nice. And there's a chance that I could still be here four months from now so it won't all be in vain. Unable to decide by weighing the pros and cons in my head, I'm left still staring at the white paper after my cigarette is fully burnt out. I sigh, shoving the paper in my pocket and starting towards the house, Calum left impeding my thoughts the entire way there. I know it's not right, maybe that's why I'm letting it happen, but this perpetual cycle just kept on repeating. Calum was all I could think about since that one afternoon meeting on a humid August day there at the school where I made a fool out of myself.

It didn't take long to get back to the house. Before I knew it, I was making my way up the brick walkway to the front door.

"Hello?" I call out, pushing open the large wooden door. No answer. I sigh heavily before padding up the carpeted stairs and to my bedroom. Plopping down on the bed, I close my eyes and become pensive with thought.

I sat up, rubbing my eyes lightly. I decide that I am truly exhausted and make my way over to my closet. I strip myself from my clothes and pull an over sized tee shirt. Shuffling back to my bed, I switch my bedside lamp off before pulling the covers over my body. I close my eyes and allow myself to drift into a heavy slumber.

I'm woken much too early for my liking by the loud beeping of my alarm. I press the 'off' button and slide out of bed before getting ready for yet another day at school. I look at the piece of paper that that boy gave me the other day. I trace my fingers along the numbers. I pull out my phone and decide to text him against my better judgement. Looking at the time, I finish my morning routine, and rush down the stairs before grabbing my bag. I pull out my skateboard before slipping out of the house. I place my headphones over my ears before strolling towards that damn school, unready for an encounter of any sorts with that boy because who knows what could happen.
