Chapter Two
"It's not Jenna's," I knew he would find that much out in no time. This is not happening. Please, don't let this be happening.
"Dude! Do you have a girlfriend that I wasn't told about?" Jeremy sounded very upset. I answered his question almost immediately.
"No way, Jere. You would be the first to know," I didn't think this through. If he thought it was a girlfriends, and I had said yes, he would probably drop the matter quickly. He would be too busy trying to figure out who it could be, then to even consider the fact that I was lying. Damn! This could turn out bad.
"Well if it's not Jenna's, and you don't have a girlfriend, then whose is this? Why is it in your bathroom?"
"Can we please just forget about it? Please?" And now I'm avoiding the subject. He would figure out in no time flat that something was up.
"Fine. I'll let this one go, for now at least. Don't think I'll forget about this, Chris. If there is something going on, I just want to know that you are okay," Jeremy sent me a worried look. I just nodded in agreement, suggesting everything was fine. Well, that bullet was dodged. He grabbed one of the gaming controllers from the case. "Okay, now that the serious moment is over, get ready for your butt whooping!"
"Bring. It. On." I replied. Most of the games I have, Jeremy sucks at playing, yet that doesn't keep him from thinking he's the best. But his cockiness was appreciated over the questioning I knew would come later. I just hope the questioning comes much, much later. Maybe then I'll be ready for the end result.
We played video games for most of the afternoon. I won most of the games, except two (I mean, I had to let him win a few right?). After yet another match was over, I glanced at the clock.
"Oh no! It's already almost six! My mom's going to be home any minute! If she sees you, she's going to be pissed! Jere, you have to go," I gave him a worried look. I realized my mistake after it was already too late. For in that worried glance, was fear, and from the look Jeremy sent my way, he knew it was there too.
"What's going on? Christian? I know that look. I've known you too long not to know that look. Are you afraid of your mom? Has she-" Just as the words were escaping his mouth, realization spread across his face. I shook my head in desperation. Please don't read to far into this. "You're coming with me tonight. No excuses, got it? Jenna can go to her friend's or something, but there is no way I'm going to leave you here. Come on."
He grabbed onto my wrist, holding tightly. Pulling me behind him, we headed to Jenna's room, which was just down the hall, and opened the door without knocking. "Christian is coming with me, and I think you should go somewhere too. Stay away from here unless he or I tell you otherwise. Don't ask any questions, just please do as I said."
Jenna could tell something was wrong. Jeremy was never this serious. He was usually a goof, bouncing around and hitting on every girl in sight. She glanced at me and her expression was filled with worry. I didn't have to ask why, I knew. On my face was a look of shock and horror. He had found out about Mom. What was going to happen now? What was going to happen to Jenna and me?
Jenna nodded in reply and made a quick call, I'm guessing to her friend Bri. Soon, she was packing up a small bag, told us she was leaving now, and slipped by us. Still standing in her doorway, Jeremy looked at me. "Go grab your stuff and let's go. Everything is going to be alright. We just need to make it to my house and we'll deal with the rest from there."
I was in complete shock. Unknowingly, I told Jeremy what was going on. After months of hiding it from everyone, he knew. Why couldn't I hide it? Why? Get it together and do as he says, Christian! I told myself.
I walked into my room, grabbed a duffle bag that I had laying on my closet floor. I tried to gather my things as quickly as I could. After stuffing some clothes and necessities into my bag, I made sure I grabbed my phone, school bag, and car keys and followed behind Jeremy to my front door. Everything was happening too fast. It was going by in such a blur. Next thing I knew, we were at the front door, and Jeremy was reaching for the handle.
Before either of us knew it, the front door was turning by itself. That could mean only one thing. We were too late. She was home, and we were in big trouble.
