The next morning, I woke up to my phone going off. I picked it up and said groggily, "Hello?" A laugh rang through the phone.
"Good morning Mia!" Ed said cheerfully. "How are you?"
"I'd be fine if I was still asleep." I grumbled. I was not a morning person. One bit. Ed laughed again and I sighed. I was not going to get anymore rest.
"I was just wondering if you wanted to get breakfast with me!" He said. I said yes and we arranged a small meeting at Starbucks.
As soon as I hung up, an alert went off on my phone's calendar! It read:
Job interview
Dress nice! Don't forget to bring my nice black flats!
Yeah, I was so smart that I had arranged a job interview while I still lived in Connecticut. And it was time for the interview already! I got dressed in some sweats and a galaxy sweatshirt and packed my interview clothes into a camouflage backpack.
I then ran outside and walked to the Starbucks. As I walked in, I saw that it wasn't very busy inside. Phew! I hated crowds of any kind! They made me claustrophobic.
I spotted Ed sitting at a small table in the back and I skipped over.
"Morning Ed!" I said. He smiled and said hi back.
"Hey! What’s with the backpack? Something special going on?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Yep! I got a job interview in 2 hours so I brought a bag with my clothes in it!" I said, still out of breath from walking so fast here.
"Oh! Fun stuff! Want a drink?" I nodded and we got up to order. I got a vanilla frappuccino and Ed got some kind of coffee! We sat back down to wait and ate our lemon scones. (Which were quite delicious!)
"So! How are you liking Seattle?" Ed asked, through a mouthful of scone. I chewed my food and then replied.
"It's amazing! It's so loud and crazy here! So different from all the places I've lived!" I said. "I love it!" I added, because I never really answered his question.
“Yeah, Seattle is a really great place! I love it here! Probably my favorite US city!” He said. After a moment of silence, a Starbucks employee brought us our drinks. As I sipped my frappuccino, Ed kept talking about his busy superstar life. “I’m here for a break from the celeb life! It got really crazy so I wanted some time off. So far, I’ve been here for 2 weeks and no one has even suspected me being here! It’s great!”
“Wow! It must be pretty good to have a break from all the fans and haters! Where do all of them think you really are anyway?”
“I tweet every couple days saying things like, ‘sunshine is perfect’ and ‘the sand beneath my feet feels amazing’ and most people believe that I’m in Hawaii or something!”
“That’s genius!” After I said that, I got a notification saying that it was time for my job interview. “I have to go! I’m sorry!” I said as I got up and picked up my backpack. “Thanks for the breakfast!”
“Hey! How about after your interview, we do something fun! So text me the address when you’re done!” He said and stood up too. I nodded and walked away.
As soon as I walked out of the job interview, I let out a breath. It had been so hard to talk to a woman I had never met before! (Because I’m so shy!)
I texted Ed this afterwards:
hey ed! come to this address i’m ready to go
I waited outside for about 10 minutes before I saw Ed walking towards me. “Hey!” He said as he ran the next few feet and stopped in front of me. “How was it?” I shrugged and he laughed.
