After Emily got back, we all headed to the lake.
Some of the boys were looking at me wired. I asked Jess about it and she said they might like me. I told her if they did, I wouldn't know, I never had a boyfriend and know one really ever had a crush on me either.
"Well, here's your chance." She whispered. I looked at her confused. She moved her eyes to the other side of me, I knew she wanted me to look at something. I looked and saw one of the boys from Skunk Cabin looking at me, but he looked away when he saw me turn his way. He had a bear hat on. I looked back at Jess and started blushing.
She wiggled her I eyebrows at me. "Knock it off." I told her.
When we arrived at the lake, we were put into groups of two. They put girls with boys, but since there are less girls, Toni put all boys names in the hat she was wearing and made the girls pick a name. And for the 16 boys who didn't get picked, eight pick a name too.
The girls lined up, and choose a name, I stood next to Grace, almost to the end.
She turned to me, "What would happen if we choose someone like Tyler?" She asked
"What's wrong with Tyler?" I asked her ignoring her question
"Nothing, Tyler Oakely is really nice, all the Tylers are, matter of fact. But there are four Tylers, what if we got a paper that says "Tyler"? Which Tyler are we paring up with?" She asked
She has a point. "I don't know." I turned to look at Marzia, "Hey, Marzia?"
"Yeah."
"Do what happens if you choose someone who has the same name as someone else?" I asked
She made a thinking face, "I don't know."
"Um...Grace?" Toni said, holding the hat in front of her.
Grace blushed, "Oh," she picked a name out of the hat and looked at me and Marzia, annoyed, "Tyler." she said out loud. I held in my laughter, but Marzia giggled.
I looked around, Hannah was with some guy from the Squirrel Cabin. Jess got someone from the Beaver Cabin, he had a hockey mask on-he looked like Jason Voorhees. Lilly got someone from the Buffalo Cabin. I didn't know any of the boys they were paired with.
Anyway, four boys stepped forward. Tyler and three other boys looked confused, so did Toni, Ed, Josh, and Emily. Clearly, they didn't think this through.
"Okay, um... Tyler W., your with Grace." She said pointing to the tallest one out of the four.
One of the Tylers had nerd glasses like Tyler Oakely, and he had somewhat long light brown hair that went to one side, he was a part of Scarlet Tanager Cabin. The other one had longer brown hair, but his covered his eye, he had the same shirt.
They walked to where the teams are supposed to go after they got their partner.
Then Toni turned to me. I put my hand in the hat going for one of the names at the bottom. I pull out a slip of folded paper and open it.
"Ken." I say looking around. It was the guy with the bear hat from the Skunk Cabin. He looked at me surprised. And we walked to the group of partners.
"Hi, I'm Ken." he said putting out his hand. Oh no really, it's not like I pulled your name out of a hat or something; I thought your name was Jeff.
"Hi, I'm Fred." I say, shaking his hand. He smiled.
"Is this your first year?" He asked
"Yeah. You?" I asked him too
"Fourth." he answered. I smiled
"Okay campers, lets get to the canoes!" Toni yelled as we all started to head to the lake.
Ken and I got your lifejackets and got into one of the canoes. Then Josh gave the boys a rag. I asked Ken, he didn't know either. What are they doing?
"Okay, every boy who got a bling fold, put it on: You're going to paddle the canoe and your partner will tell you what to do." Ed yelled as Ken put on the blindfold.
"Okay campers who can see, look at the flag over on the other side of the lake," Emily yelled. I looked behind me trying to find the flag. Then I saw it-a mile away.
"You will guide you and your partner there and back. And we'll be watching, so no cheating. This will be a race, the first team back wins. Who ever wins, goes last for the fighting circle." Josh finished. So people cheered.
"Alright, on your mark," Ed said, Ken got his paddle ready, "get set," I looked at the flag, "go!" and we're off.
Ken had a good idea, get moving before I start talking.
"I'm going to warn you now, I'm not good a communicating." I warned him.
"It's okay, I'm not the best listener. But hey, two negatives make a positive." He said smiling, he looked funny with his blindfold on, but even funnier when he's blushing.
I looked at the flag, "Turn right, but don't move the boat." I ordered and he did as I said.
"Alright, go strai-" I cut off by a splash. I look over at the direction it came from and saw the other boy with a mask-it had a poker face-and another boy with blonde hair. Neither of them had a blindfold though.
"What the-Cry!" The blonde one screamed, he was from the skunk cabin. The one with the mask laughed.
"Felix, shut up!" Ken screamed, he probably recognized the voice. I laughed.
"Come on, lets keep going." Ken said. I nodded, forgetting he can't see me.
I looked at the flag, some people were in front of us, but not far. Most of them stopped to look who fell out of the canoe. "Just go straight." I said
"Okay." He said moving forward. "So are you new around here?" he asked
"Yeah, my grandma signed me up for this camp." I explained, not looking back at him. "What grade are you in?" I asked him.
"12th." Ken said
"I'm a junior." I said and he laughed a bit, I turned around, "What?" I asked laughing a little too.
"You're just really cute and mature for someone who still have two years of high school left." he said and smiled, I laughed a little.
And we crashed. I turned back to see who we bumped into. It was Grace and the tall Tyler, who was blindfolded.
"What the hell?" he yelled. Grace and I kept on apologizing while the boys were yelling, trying to figure out what was going on.
"Ken, row back a bit. We bumped into Grace's canoe." I explained calmly to Ken, and he did what I said.
"Tyler, back up." Grace said to Tyler, but he went the wrong way and hit us again.
"Sorry." he said, going the right way. I looked around, and saw Jess smirking at us.
Once, Grace and Tyler got out of the way, the flag was right in front of us, "Okay, it's right there. Go straight." I said, and he followed.
We got to the flag and turned. We headed back to where the counselors were, but I knew we weren't going to be the first people there, at the least, six teams were in front of us.
"We aren't going to be the first to get there. Go straight." I said. He nodded and went forward. "Hey, what's the fighting circle?" I asked him.
He laughed a bit, "It's where the girls and boys fight. And it's not like wrestling with no punching, you can even kick the guy in the nuts, and you might win. The rule is, who's ever still standing wins."
I'm the smallest camper.
The boys are huge.
Great...
