"I was just gonna let you go wash off but now everyone is muddy so...follow me." Ed said, looking at me. We laughed a bit and started to follow.
Everybody got back in their teams and followed Ed to a track. A single white line separated two lanes. One had blue flags, the other had red. The track wasn't round, it was just a long flat indent on the ground.
"Ryan's team is red. Fred's team is blue. Line up at the starting line." Ed yelled and pointed to the start.
"Dammit, I wanted blue." Johnathan whispered.
We walked over to the start and Toni and Ed went to a shed and came back with huge, wooden cylinders. I looked at Jin, "What are those?"
"The barrels." He said like I should know what they are. "Oh wait, this is your first year. Let me explain." He turned his whole body to me and I did the same. "We're doing The Barrel Roll. It's where half of the team pushes the barrel and the other half is inside the barrel, trying to collect the six flags, three on each side. Each person who is pushing the barrel also get two small plastic balls the throw at the people who are trying to grab the flags."
"Okay. So, I'm guessing the team with the most flags at the end wins?"
"Yep. Oh and I'm not captain, but if I were you, I'd put the bigger people in the barrel."
"Why? That means the smaller people have to push them."
"When your in the barrel, you have more control, so the smaller people wouldn't be doing that much work. Plus, we have longer arms and the plastic balls won't hurt as much." Jin explained
"Fair point, but most of our team are short people. I think we should just have the girls and one boy pushing and the rest of the boys can be in the barrel."
He nodded and Ed hit the gong again. Honestly, I don't know where he puts that. "Campers, we will be playing The Barrel Roll, so captains decide where everyone's going to be."
I turned and looked at my team. "Okay, I want the girls to push and the boys to be in the barrel, but one boy needs to be with the girls." I explained and everyone nodded. "Any volunteers?"
No one raised there hand, stepped forward, or even talked. The boys went silent and the girls were looking at them.
"Hello, Earth to boys. Who's running with the girls?" Hannah said.
I knew Tyler O. wasn't going to because he would be happy to be in a tight space with boys. And I really don't want one of the bigger boys to be in the back because it would ruin it. But I can't say I'm mad at them for not speaking up. I mean if the boys asked if they wanted a girl the be on there team, you really don't want to raise your hand because then you'll look desperate. Boys and girls may be different, but when your in high school, you'll realize they think the same way.
Then Evan got pushed forward and almost fell.
"Finally. Evan you'll be pushing with us." Glozell said, putting an arm around him.
"No, I refuse to push the barrel next to Mr. Pees-A-Lot." Mamrie said
"And I refuse to push the barrel with a perv." Evan said, pushing Glozell's arm away.
"Anyone else?" I asked. After another round of silence I said, "Evan, you're helping the girls push-"
Mamrie and Evan started yelling at the same time and I didn't understand a word they said.
"Hey!" Jin yelled, "Does this look like a play ground? No! This is a camp activity and you two are acting like children! Poor Fred over here is a captain for the first time and you two are being brats! She's trying to fucking help the team and both of you are getting mad about spreading cuties!"
Jin has muscles and really tall, I'm pretty sure everyone was scared of the out burst.
"O-Okay," I said after a few moments of silence, "we didn't need to scream but you have a point. Mamrie, stay on the far right and Evan, stay on the far left."
They nodded and Jin calmed down, "Sorry." He whispered
"It's okay, we probably deserved it" Mamrie said and Evan nodded.
We walked to our barrel and everyone got situated. Evan stayed on the far right and Mamrie stayed on the far left. The other team quickly joined us. Toni gave us the plastic balls and Jack/Sean said "I love balls." Toni joined Ed at the side line. He hit the gong a we were off.
Jin was right, it was easy for the people inside to control-well, at least it looked and felt like it. I barely did any work. As we went past the first flag, two people from the other team wasted both balls. Fortunately, we got both flags, but I think someone got hit in the face.
Once we got to the second one, I threw one of my balls at Will. He was confused and before he could realize what happened, they were past the flag. I didn't look to see if we got both flags.
When we got to the last set of flags, everyone on the other team chucked the balls and my teammate's faces. I kinda feel bad, but I'd be lying if I said we didn't do the same.
We reached the finish line first, but I don't know if we have more flags. The other team rolled up quickly behind us. I really didn't realize how tiring that was until after we stopped pushing the barrel. Ed walked over to us and everyone handed in the flags.
"The red team has five flags." He said after a quick count. "And the blue team has four. Red team wins!"
The other team cheered and went crazy. We, on the other hand, were still trying to catch our breathes.
"Okay, we are done with exercises for now. It's time for lunch." Toni said "Everyone clean off and head to the mess hall." I kind of forgot we were covered in mud still.
We went to our cabins and cleaned off real fast. After my cabin was done, we all headed to the mess hall. After we ate, it started storming outside, so instead of doing activities, we watched "Hotel Transylvania 2." I'm such a child; I couldn't stop laughing.
After the movie was over, it was still raining outside so we had to run to our cabins. Basically, we were going to stay in there for the rest of the day.
Jess got up and sat in the middle of the room, "Who wants to play truth of dare?"
