"Grandma, please don't make me go!" I beg as she sits in the kitchen and continues to make dinner.
"Fred, you need to make so friends and this is the most popular camp in Illinois." My grandma explained. I got mad and ran to my room.
I should probably introduce myself, my name is Fred and I'm a girl. 'Isn't Fred a boy's name?' Yeah but my mom REALLY liked the name Fred, so yeah. Anyway, I'm a junior in high school, the shortest one. You might think I get bullied, but I don't, actually, I have a lot of friends. That is until I moved. My mom works all the time and she got a job somewhere else in Illinois. But I didn't know we were going to move in with my grandma until after I woke up with boxes all over my room. I love my grandma, but she's old and needy. And she wants me to make friends, but if I don't have to meet the person, I prefer not to. But since school was over when we moved, I didn't have to go, so my grandma made a plan for me-She signed me up for camp.
The camp was called "Camp Snake", how nice is that? According to Grandma, it's really popular and a lot of teens my age go there. It started at the beginning of summer, to the end. And tomorrow, was the last day of school, June 21. I was packed, but I didn't want to go.
The high school here was really different from my last. The school year didn't start until September 22, the day we get back from camp. So I wondered if it was a school thing, but Grandma said it wasn't. But we all have to ride a bus TOGETHER to get there. And by we, I mean everyone one who's going. We're all going to be cramped in one yellow school bus with four month's of clothes piled around us. Yeah 'cuase I want to feel like a sardine.
"Fred, supper is done!" My grandma yelled
"Okay, I'm coming!" I yell back. Food-my only weakness.
I walked into the kitchen and looked out the window, band just got done practicing. We live close the high school and every time we eat dinner, teens with band instruments, Grandma later told me that they band has to stay until 6:00 to practice. Thank God I'm not in band.
After we ate, I went to my room and stayed in there until it was 11:48, then I decided to go to bed.
When I woke up, my Grandma was shaking me telling me I had to get up. so I got up, got dressed, packed everything into the car, and me and my grandma drove to where the paper said to wait for the bus. When we got there, there were at least 40 people already there. I got out of the car, grabbed my bags, said good-bye to Grandma, and watched her leave. I checked my phone-The bus showed up at 7:00 am, it was 6:34. How long have these people sat out here and waited?
I looked up from my phone and looked at everybody, I knew none of them. I had that feeling that they were all looking at me, but I don't think anyone noticed I've arrived. I had that feeling that they were all talking about me, but their conversation never broke.
This was probably a wired sight. A group of teens talking to each other like they've know each other since they were little, but then you look the right a little to see someone who looks totally confused of who these people are and why she was here.
I looked back at my phone and noticed one minute passed. Wow. I played games until the bus pulled up, and it was not a school bus.
Two HUGE buses pulled up and the bus driver hopped out of each bus and put our stuff in a secret department under the bus. We all loaded in. I sat in the back by myself. But then a boy sat next to me. He probably couldn't find a set next to anyone else so he sat with me. So I stood up to look over the seats but, some of the seats were still open.
"Hi, I saw you by yourself earlier and I was about to go talk to you but the bus pulled up. So I seen you sit by yourself and I wanted to meet you. I'm Tyler, Tyler Oakley." he said holding his hand out.
I took his hand, "Hi, I'm Fred." I said and he looked surprised
"Is that your real name?" He asked, oh God, he's going to think I'm wired
I nod
"That is the best name I have ever heard for a girl. I love it!" He said really excited.
We talk for the rest of the trip to the camp. He has dirty blonde hair and nerd glasses, but he looked cute. But I knew I couldn't date him for two reasons: 1.) I just met him 2.) he was gay. This is his second year of camp and he pretty much knew how the summer was going to go, unless they changed it. I told about myself and he told me about himself.
Then people in the front started cheering, I was about to ask Tyler what was going on, but I looked out the widow to see a big sign that said "Welcome to Camp Snake" and then Tyler started cheering. We've arrived.
