Taylor's POV

I woke up earlier then normal. I was excited for today, a day with my brother. I dressed in a grey v neck, black skinny jeans, grey vans, a black sweater, and a black beanie. I brushed my hair and teeth then headed downstairs.

Allie and Ella were curled up sleeping on the pull out couch, but Alan was typing away on his phone on the loveseat.
"Hey you ready to go? We can catch breakfast somewhere." Alan says, standing up and stretching.
"Yup. Let's go." We walk outside, my friends already knowing that we were on our own today.

We get in the car and he starts playing with the radio. He settles on a classical station to which I quickly change.
"Hey I was enjoying that!" He yells.
"I wasn't."
"I'm older." He crosses his arms.
"I'm driving. The driver picks the music, and the passenger shuts his cake hole." I say referencing supernatural. He glares at me and sighs.
"Fine." He huffs.
"Stop being such a baby." I joke.
"Hey I'm an adult. You still look like a baby!"
"I'm 17!" I exclaim.
"I'm 25." He smirks.
"Whatever." I say sassily.
We pull up at this small breakfast diner and walk in. We're seated by a girl in a sky blue dress, with red trim and and a white apron. She left us to look at the menu.

"I'm feeling some pancakes what about you?" I ask. He chuckles and sweeps a hand over his stubbly head.
"I dunno man some hash browns and scrambled eggs are calling my name." We both chuckle.

"I missed you." I answer honestly. He gives me a soft smile.
"I know bud. I missed you too." He says softly.
"It's been hard without you. Not knowing if your going to come back alive, how is everything there?" I ask curiously.
"Everything's been alright so far. After being properly trained I haven't gone on any overly dangerous missions. I mainly just evacuate buildings and things. But, you remember Darren right?" Alan asks and I nod.
"He, he didn't make it. Went on a mission and stepped on a landmine. Died instantly. Poor fucker." He mumbles. The girls comes back to the table.

"Gentleman did you decide on anything?" She asks cheerfully. She notices the grim look on Alan's face and looks to me to order first. Smart choice.
"Yea, can I get 3 pancakes?" She nods and scribbles it down.
"And for you sir?" She asks and I can sense the wariness in her voice.
"Just some hash browns and scrambled eggs please ma'am." He smiles. Relief floods her features and I even notice a faint blush. I smirk.

She walks away and the seriousness returns to the table.
"So, Darren, how long did he last?" Alan gulps uncomfortably.
"Died 2 months ago. Didn't even see it coming." I sigh. Darren was a good guy. Always cheerful and hell he's the one that convinced Alan to sign up with him. They'd been friends since middle school. And for him to be gone. It's weird.

We eat in a peaceful silence, both lost in thought.
"What about the living conditions? How are they treating you?" I ask. He sighs, probably frustrated with my questions.
"It's fine. Got my own room. Pretty small its 8x8, but its home. We get showers, even good food. Any more questions?" He sneers.
"Jeez no need to get moody. Sorry for fucking worrying." I snap at him. He sighs and rubs his face.
"I'm sorry. I just don't want to think about it. I want to spend time with my little brother." I nod and give a small smile.

We finish eating, pay for the bill, and head out.
"So, what do you feel like doing?" I ask.
"We probably should've thought of that before hand."
"Probably." I nod. We exit and just start walking.

"I know what we should do." He smirks. I look at him warily.
"What?"
"We need some good ol' fashion laser tag."
"Oh fuck yea." I grin. We used to go to the laser tag place around my moms old house at least once a week. Drove our mom insane.

We walked to the nearest one, since we were already downtown and picked our nicknames.
"I think we have to go with our old ones. It's tradition." He said and I just chuckle and nod.
"Alright. Your going down." I tell him I type in my old nickname.
