Another day had passed. He still hadn't noticed. She was getting tired now. It was becoming tedious. She kept wondering to herself 'How long will it take for him to notice?'
He told her he like someone today and he saw something flash behind her amber brown eyes. It was something he had never seen before, but there was something inside him saying that he wasn't sure he wanted to know. But as quick as the look came it went and a small smile came on her face as she asked for more details. Her smile started to fade slightly as he described the girl but around half way through he saw it completely go before being replaced by a wide smile.
It was fake it didn't even reach her eyes.
And he wanted to know why.
She almost had her heart broken this morning. He had told her he liked someone and she had felt her heart soar. She could remember thinking 'He's finally noticed' and then when she asked for more details about the girl he liked. He didn't end up describing her.
He never did.
He tried to ignore her sudden shifts in moods. He tried to ignore how she was lying straight to his face. He tried to ignore the fact that she was hiding something from him. As much as he tried to ignore those things he couldn't. He was worried about her, she was acting strange and it wasn't like her. He cared about her; of course he did she was his best friend. He was bound to be worried about her.
She knew he noticed. Of course he'd notice, he always knew when something was up. But he didn't notice what she wanted him to instead he noticed something unimportant and miniscule. She had walked away without so much as a mumbled 'Bye'. She just turned away from him and left, leaving him standing there looking shocked. She hadn't wanted him to the see the tears building up in her eyes. So she had run away from him without looking back.
He stared after her in shock before calling out her name and trying to gain her attention. It didn't work and she just kept walking away. He almost ran after her but got called by one of his friends. Slowly he shook his head slightly before walking over to his friends.
When she reached the end of the corridor she finally looked back and saw him walking over to his friends as if nothing had just happened. She let out a soft sigh before wiping her eyes with her tattered sweater sleeve that was way too big for her. Then she walked away.
'Are you okay man?' one of his friends asked him before nudging his shoulder. 'You seem out of it'
He looked back to where she had once stood talking to him before saying 'Yeah I'm good, just tired is all'
He lied to them and they didn't even notice. Instead they just shrugged it off and continued talking. 'She wouldn't have shrugged it off, she would've known I was lying' he thought to himself.
