She rolled over on the bed as she opened her eyes; she looked up at the ceiling feeling a weird sense of tranquility and peace. It was almost so unsettling that it almost didn't bother her at all. The mid day sun was glaring through the crack in the curtains. She could smell something unusual; it was the smell of actual cooked food and coffee, and it was wafting past her nose and enticing her.
She walked downstairs feeling intrigued and confused, she was in her home and was still fully clothed in her pajamas but there was never any cooked food. James couldn't cook to save his life and neither of her parents actually did anything in the house anymore other than sleep. She entered the kitchen to something that was oddly comforting and nice; her brother and Matt were talking and laughing together, both shirtless may she say, with Matt standing over the stove cooking food.
She wasn't complaining about anything, in fact she kind of liked the fact that they were getting along. She stood there leaning against the doorway of the kitchen silently watching the scene unfold before her, barely listening to the conversation, as she was too deep in thought. Matt turned around to put some food on a plate and realized she was standing there. He put down the food, picked up the plate and made his way over to her kissing her cheek as he handed her the plate of food. She felt a blush crawl up her cheeks and then she grabbed the plate from his waiting hands whilst sending him a shy smile before going to sit by her brother at the table.
'This is really good Matt, thank you' She said to him as she stuffed her face with the food getting sauce all around her. He couldn't help but laugh at how natural she was acting around him.
'Waff ar yoew laufinf aboufh?' She said indignantly as he kept laughing at her to the point where her brother joined in with him. She had food covering her mouth, her cheeks had puffed out so that she resembled a chipmunk and her puffed out cheeks were rosy in color.
'Nothing you're just really cute in the mornings' He replied back with a goofy grin as he took her now empty plate away from in front of her. She sent him a cheeky smile before saying 'Oh and I don't look cute in the evenings? Just the mornings? I'm hurt Matt, you've broken my heart'
Laughter filled the kitchen air and for once in her life she felt as if her house was finally whole again.
For the very first in what felt like forever Drew wasn't the first thing that she thought of in the morning.
And she was glad.
