Chapter 13

I wake in a white room with an air mask over my face. There is a person sitting at the foot of my bed but I can't see who it is. As they realize I have awaken they move closer. I realize that the familiar face is Gale. The expression on his face looks worried and I can't help but try and ask why he looks like he is in such distress. I struggle to speak his name so he speaks for me. "Hey Catnip. I know you can't really talk right now and I heard what happened with Peeta, but you have to get Peeta out of here. Katniss I think there's something wrong with the Captiol Hospital. I think that they are trying to kill Peeta."

I peer around the room frantically in search of Peeta. The monitor begins to speed up as my heart does. Gale lays me back down but I am hesitant to stay there. I rip off all my connection to monitors or medicine, fearing that they are trying to kill me too. I step off the bed and search for a way out. I spot the white door and attempt to pull it open. The door resists as I try and pull harder. Gale tries to pull it open as well, and ends up throwing a chair into the mirror. The mirror is apparently a one way mirror. He checks that there are no nurses in the room and hurdles through the window, I follow. We walk through the long hallway with windows into different patients bedrooms until we find Peeta's.

When we get to his room I stare blankly. He looks deathly pale, and ill. His entire body is bruised and has deep cuts all around. He is hooked up to several different medicines, intoxicating his bloodstream. I bang on the window frantically, but Peeta shows no response. I cry onto Gale's shoulders and he rubs my back to help me feel better as he whispers how we are going to get Peeta out of there. "Katniss. Katniss calm down. We are going to break through the window and take out all the tubes from his body. I will disconnect him from the monitor while you check him for any tracking chips. He is going to be under severe sedation drugs so after we disconnect him from everything, I will carry him and you will help me. After getting him out of there, we will figure out a plan of attack from there."

I slowly nod in a simple up-and-down motion showing that I agree with the plan. Gale picks up one of the heavy metal chairs and slams it through the window. I flinch, but Peeta lays undisturbed. He and I jump through the window and begin our plan. We first remove the tubes, and then Gale disconnects him from the monitor while I check him for tracking chips. I begin my search and stop when I see three tracking chips on the table next to me. I pick them up and show them to Gale, "Guess they didn't get to that part yet." Gale smirks. I throw them on the ground and stomp on them until they are little bits. Gale carries him out of the room and I help him get Peeta through the window. Peeta begins to wake a little as we carry him out, but not enough to understand what is going on.

We continue down the long corridor until we find a large metal door leading out to the main floor. First Gale peers through the window and checks for nurses, once he realizes that there are quite a few menacing nurses out there he tells me the next plan. "Katniss, I am going to pull the fire alarm and wait for all the nurses and peacekeepers to flee, so we can make an escape. I told your mentor, Haymitch, to bring a train the to the train station right outside the back of the hospital." I nod once again in agreement. Gale pulls the alarm and watches everyone flee. We wait a few minutes to that we know everyone is gone. We then open the large metal door and run down the hallway. When we are running down the back stairs I begin to feel light-headed. I am so confused, that I run into a large metal beam that I was told to duck on. I stray for a second and feel my temple, only to feel warm blood running down the side of my face. I set aside the pain and continue running. Once I reach the end of the stairs, we find the train waiting there, and as soon as we enter the train it begins moving.

Gale and I take a deep breath and lay Peeta in the back room with District 12's doctors waiting to cure him. I stumble through the rooms and Gale notices the blood running down the side of my face. "Katniss what happened?" I struggle to focus on Gale. Gale begins to ooze red blood, and I stumble over and touch the blood. Gale then falls to the ground and I have blood all over my hands. Gale's voice begins to echo in my head and then it mutates into a very familiar voice, chanting, "It's the things we love that destroy us." My eyes widen as I realize who's voice is in my head and then I hit the ground with a thump.

Hey guys, I know that it has been an EXTREMELY long time, but its been a really rough time for me lately, I lost three of the most important people in my life, and have basically been trying to make new friends at a new school, but I honestly have none. I've just been trying to understand what is happening in my life. I really hope you can understand and I hope you can enjoy this chapter.
