It was a very sad day for Fleff, the bald eagle, and his mate, Petu.
It was hunting season. Hunters would soon be coming. They were worried. Would they have time to raise a family before the hunters got here? They were even more worried about being extinct. Deciding quickly, they made a wobbly nest and laid 8 eggs when the hunters came. Quickly they hid the eggs and flew off to safely.
They returned only for a while to warm the eggs, and when they hatched, hunting season was over. Now they had 8 little chicks! After they grew up, Petu died. Fleff was left alone.
Now, there was someone who loved eagles!
She was a eagle protector. She met Fleff: she loved him! But Fleff did not trust her. He never flew into the traps or got near her. The eagle lover, Sarah, was sad. She wanted to help Fleff. She had, in her lab, a lonely female eagle. So Sarah decided to bring the eagle to Fleff.
Fleff saw the eagle and fell in love! Her name was Lera. They had another nest. And they become endangered no more!
