On Deafness

What did you say?

I can't hear you.

Everything is so quiet,

Your voice just doesn't get through.

I want to hear the sounds you say,

I want to hear your voice.

Music, laughter, tears and more,

But I can't reach out to the noise.

What I have is depressing,

What I wish for is peace,

But comfort and happiness

Are not within my reach.

What did you say?

Everything feels so loud,

I can't pick your voice out

From among the crowd.

If only the noises could reach my ears,

You'll never understand how bad it feels not to hear.
