I woke up to Newt snuggled in the covers next to me. I was still on top of the sheets. It wasn't cold, and I didn't exactly want to sleep with him. That would be awkward.
I got off the bed and walked to the window. The curtains were drawn so I moved them out of the way. It was still dark. I didn't disturb Newt, and just sat on the floor, leaning against the bed.

It was too early to be up, but I couldn't go back to sleep. I was thinking about what the outside world was like, outside the maze that is. Whoever put us here is either a psychopath or has a very good reason to do so. Especially only sending one girl up, that's put alot of pressure on me. I still couldn't stop wondering about how I may have known Newt, he just felt so familiar. Should I tell him? He might know me too. I came to the decision that I would tell him in the morning. Hopefully he won't tell Alby, like he did with my arm.

It finally started to get light outside, was I really up that long? I heard Newt groan in his sleep, is he dreaming?

"Newt?" I whisper shouted, "Newt?!"
"What? I want to sleep!" He mumbled.

"Newt, this is important, please." I begged.

"Mmmmmm fine!" He grumbled and sat up, wiping his eyes and stretching.

I walked away from the window and sat on the sheepskin rug. "Newt, I- I think I know you, you seem familiar."

"What?" Newt sounded surprised.

I put my hands up, "Please, don't tell Alby, I don't want to have another Gathering, they all scare me!"

"Okay, but what do you mean?"

"I feel like I remember you, but I don't. It's difficult to explain, but I think we knew eachother before we were put in the Maze." Getting all off this off my chest was relieving.

Newt nodded, "I think I remember you too, like you were my best friend or something like that. I have one memory of me when I was about seven, playing safari with a little girl that looked like you, I can't remember her face, though. She has (h/c) hair like yours and was slightly shorter then me." He said.

I stayed silent, he just folded his legs into a more comfortable position. "Do you remember your parents?" I asked out of the blue.
Newt shook his head. "I wish I did though." He said sadly.
"I remember having them, but I don't remember what they look like, or their names." I whispered.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" he said, face palming, "follow me, I need to show you something."

Newt stood and walked out of his bedroom, with me on his tail. He lead me out of the homestead, through the fields and to the farthest wall. Embedded in the wall was a large piece of thick glass. "What is it?" I asked.

"Just wait, look through it." He instructed me.
I looked through the glass, concrete walls, covered in vines and moss were on the other side. "It's the maze." I realised.
"Sure is, Greenie. That's not what I brought you here for though, just wait, one will come along." He folded his arms over his chest as I kept looking through the glass, curiosity keeping me in place.

A whirring, clicking sound filled my ears and a metal rod emerged from behind one of the walls. Then another rod, and another. But, they weren't rods, they were legs. Soon enough a whole body appeared. It was the most terrifying creature you could ever think of, it's body was shimmery from the slime that oozed from it's pores, no eyes, and a huge mouth full of very sharp teeth. "That," Newt started, "Is a griever."
Just as he said something, the griever launched itself at the glass, but I didn't flinch, I was too fascinated by this animal, how it was part living and part robot. It kept launching itself at the glass until it realised that it wasn't going to get me, so it turned and started to walk away. "No, come back!" I said, putting my hands on the glass and pressing my forehead on it.
"Trust me when I say this, (Y/n), you never want those things to come back." Newt said sternly.
"But, it's so interesting, how could it control it's limbs, they would have to have nerves in each of them so it could walk, it should be impossible." My breath fogged the glass and I stepped back.

"Alby takes every Greenie here on their second day so he can scare them enough from prevent that person from going into the maze, looks like it didn't work for you." He sighed.

"Then make me a runner." I said.

"No." Newt replied quickly.

"Why not? And don't you dare say it's because I'm a girl, because if you do I swear to god-"
"No, it's not that." He cut me off, "One, you're a green bean, you have to trial for all the jobs first, second, because, do you know how dangerous it is out there? Third, because Minho chooses, not me." He huffed.

I sighed and brought my finger to both my temples, feeling a headache coming on. "You okay?" Newt asked.
"Yeah, can I have some water?" I asked, looking to him.

He nodded and walked to the fields where there was a well, he pulled the handle while I scooped some of it out with my hands from the bucket underneath it, washing my face aswell. When I looked up, I saw that the sky was a bright orange, the sunrise painted the sky like it was a canvas, and boy, was it a piece of art. "I could get used to this." I said as I looked at the sky above me.

"It gets old pretty fast." Newt sighed.

"How long have you been here?" I blurted, turning to face him.

"Three years." he frowned.

"I guess that's why you're second in command then." I smiled a little.

"I just can't wait for the day that we get out of here." Newt spoke sadly.
"We'll get there, weather it's tomorrow, next month, or next year. But we will get there. And I sure will do my best to help." I patted his shoulder.

"I'm sure Minho and the rest of the boys would be grateful for your help." he smiled.
I sighed, "Yeah, I just wish there was another girl here, it's a bit scary by being surrounded by nothing but boys."
"I though you would like that." Newt smirked and chuckled.

"I'm sure most girls would, until they're actually in that situation." I admitted.

"Well, let's go get breakfast then, I'm starving." he said.
"Yeah, me too." I said as we walked together to the kitchens.
