''Come on Lily we better go downstairs or your mom will be angry'' I said after 45 minutes of playing barbie and doll houses with Lily. In all honesty I didn’t mind a bit. It was so much fun even if I was playing barbie with a 5 year old. It reminded me of when I was 5 and would play dolls like this, no care in the world…no looking after anyone, everyone actually looked after you!
''Ok'' she said and we started putting away her toys. Then I carried her downstairs. Aaron was talking to Chase and there was someone, who looked like an older version of Aaron except his eyes, too. Aaron got his eyes from his mom. They didn’t notice us.
''Daddy!'' yelled Lily.
''Oh hey pumpkin'' said Aaron's dad and I put Lily down. She rushed over to her dad and wrapped her arms around his legs like she did to Aaron.
''Hi?'' I said nervously.
''Hello Andy! I'm Peter! Aaron was just talking about you!''
''I assure you whatever he said is a lie!'' I said putting my hand on my heart as if to show I’m a noble person. He chuckled.
''Dinner's served'' said Kate from the kitchen. We all made our way to the dining table. Peter sat at the head. Kate sat to his right and Lily sat to his left. Aaron sat next to his mom and I sat next to Lily, across from Aaron. Chase sat next to me.
The food was excellent. The fried chicken and rice was so yum yum…
''So Andy do you have any brothers or sisters?'' asked Kate, trying to start conversation.
''Yea I have an older brother, Mike and a younger sister, Elizabeth''
''What about you parents?''
''Mom's a marine researcher so she's only home about once a month so it’s more like me, Mike and Elle'' I was trying to avoid subject of dad but of course when you don’t talk about him, they wanna know more!
''What about your dad?'' she asked politely. I knew she was a little curious as to why I didn’t mention him.
''He's dead'' I stated and tried to hold the tears that threatened to come out any minute like they always did at the mention of my dad. I didn’t talk about dad a lot. Actually I avoided talking about him and all my friends knew that.
''I'm so sorry Andy, I shouldn’t have asked'' Kate said. Her eyes held sympathy for me. I didn’t want her pity, I didn’t want anyone's pity.
''It's all right'' I said, a little coldly. I mean I didn’t want to sound like a bitch but this topic always made me feel like this. After that it was all silent till everyone finished and that gave me a chance to compose myself again. I didn’t want to be mean to them when they'd been so nice to me.
''Thank you for a very delicious dinner Kate'' I said truthfully.
''You're not leaving, are you Andy?'' she asked. She sounded…well confused for the more part but also regretful, as if I was leaving because she mentioned dad…
''I really should be on my way now'' I said.
''Andy! Don't go!'' cried Lily. I stooped down to my knees and looked her dead in the eyes.
''I'll be back Lily ok?'' I said and gave her a hug. I stood up and started walking towards the front door when Aaron came and said,
''Lemme give you a ride''
''No its fine, I'll walk'' But he just shook his head and said firmly,
''It's dark outside and you shouldn’t be out on the streets on your own now, I'm giving you a ride!'' I sighed.
