Chapter 5
Dion heard a soft gasp as he shot into the sky.
So she is really awake.
He flew a bit higher than he intended to and then, with one hand over her back, he did a flip.
He couldn’t help but grin when she yelped. He did another flip, this time dropping her on purpose.
Catching the poor girl after she had fallen a few feet, screaming and kicking in the air, he was surprised to hear his own laughter.
What was even more surprising was her angry voice, “why did you do that?!”
He didn’t answer her; hell he didn’t even know why. Instead, he smirked, “I thought you were dead?”
When she didn’t say anything, he looked down at her.
Her face was covered by locks of brown hair but she didn’t seem bothered by that. She was too busy looking everywhere but at him. He couldn’t tell if she was trembling from anger or fear, but for some reason the thought of this tiny human girl might be pissed at him made him chuckle.
She turned to glare at him, and it was his turn to gasp.
“You’re not human?”
Now she really was furious. “Look who’s talking.”
“But your eyes...”
Her eyes were a grey so light that you could almost see through it, but what was truly unusual were the rings of blue that surrounded each eye — Dion had been alive for 700 years and he had yet to meet a human with such colored eyes. On the other hand, elves usually had multi-colored eyes.
She had already looked away but her chest was rising and falling rapidly beneath her crossed arms.
“Why did you summon us? What do you want? Did the Eastern Red Stars send you as a spy?” he blurted.
Once again she looked him in the eyes, shock and rage clear on her face. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, demon. Whatever you think I am, I am not!”
“You’re lying,” he stated calmly. “How do you know I’m a demon if you aren’t one yourself? How could a human girl like you could summon me then?”
For a moment she just gaped at him, her mouth hung open. Then she gritted her teeth and hissed, “you were the one who killed the children in our village, am I right? Where are the other girls?”
“You can stop acting, I know what you are, spy, and don’t you think you can fool me. You haven’t gotten any Potion of Flight with you, have you? You know what happens if I drop you now, so I suggest you start talking.”
He felt oddly satisfied when she glanced down and shivered; but at the same time, he almost couldn’t suppress the urge to tighten his arms and hold her closer to him. How can they still think I am evil when I can’t even hurt the enemy just because she looks so damn innocent?
“It was Radomir, the village warlock, who summoned you, I think. They drugged me. I really don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said in a small voice.
He was going to laugh at her lies but something caught his eye as she moved her hands over her shoulders to hug herself.
The wound.
The blood.
Red like roses.
Human blood.
“I don’t understand...”
