We Surf

Soul's POV
I paddled out to sit on my board and waited for the next wave.

"Maka! You coming? I'll steal the next one if I have to!" I yelled at her paddling figure.

She stuck her tongue out at me childishly. Cute. Wait! What am I thinking?! I shook the thought from my mind.

Suddenly, a large wave began to form a little ways away from where we sat.

We both gave each other a glance before shouting, "MINE!!"

She took off with me following right behind. However, she got to it first. I dove under and began to watch her through the clear wave.

After standing up, she traced the side up and down before spinning around and returning to glide straight.

A wall of water built itself up and over, creating a tube shape.

Maka smiled. I knew these were her favorite to surf. She disappeared inside.

I must admit, I felt a bit anxious when she went in. What if she wiped out? I thought. However, Maka surfed to the end of the wave while running her hand down the side.

She looked genuinely happy. I wish I could see her like this all the time. She was often bullied at school for being a bookworm. I'm one of her only friends.

Now, it's summer so hopefully she and I can surf and I would get the privilege to see that smile everyday.

The wave died and crashed onto the shore after Maka had stopped surfing it and was now paddling to my board on hers.

I gave her a huge smile, "That was awesome Maka!"

She looked down at the sparkling water and blushed.

I could hear the sea reforming a new wave. I turned to see probably the biggest swell of the day.

Maka eyed it warily.

"It's mine."

"Soul! That wave will eat you alive!"

"Not if I can help it!" I shouted getting ready to catch it.

She dove under and I stood up when the wave took me. I began to show off and do a number of tricks. Something didn't feel quite right, but I brushed it off. Before I knew it, I was ripped from my board and sent tumbling through the water, struggling to hold in what little air I had.

The salty sea forced its way into my lungs. I crashed on the sand which rubbed my skin raw. The world went black but I could just make out a scream of my name before the darkness consumed me.

Maka.....

Small hands pressed onto my chest firmly. Then, the softest lips met mine and blew air into my lungs. I was painfully forced out of my trance when water sputtered from my mouth.

I coughed and wretched as someone put their hand on my shoulder.

"Soul..." Maka's voice breathed.

I turned to see her there soaking wet and shaking from the cold. We were on the sand.

"Maka are you ok?"

"Idiot! Don't do that to me! I thought you were gone!" She screamed hysterically before a tear slid down her face. I wiped it away with my thumb and cupped her face with my hand.

I leaned forward and gave her a sweet kiss regardless of my salt-water coated lips.

I pulled away," I'm not going anywhere."

She gave me a small smile before tackling me in a hug. The sun had said its goodbyes and fell behind the horizon of the ocean.

We shivered as the island began to cool down. I helped her up before feeling a bit dizzy. Maka noticed and wrapped my arm around her small frame, supporting me until we got home.

She led me to my room before leaving to let me change into some dry clothes. When she returned, she was in a pair of denim short-shorts and her black bikini top still on.

I tried as hard as I could to restrain the nose-bleed I felt. She laid me down in my bed and felt my forehead. I blushed.

"No fever, that's good. I'll be back with dinner." She announced.

I nodded and stiffened as she gave me a tiny kiss on my forehead.

When I had made sure that she was gone, blood trickled out of my nose. I turned bright red before wiping the crimson away.

Maka returned a bit later with some soup. I was pretending to be asleep so that I wouldn't get a nose-bleed again at the sight of her.

She brushed my spiky hair from my closed eyes. I shivered a bit, she chuckled and left.

Hey! I'm supposed to make you shiver and blush! What is happening to me?!

I ate my soup hungrily and was startled when Maka came in with a pillow and blanket. Her denim short-shorts and bikini top gone only to be replaced by pajama shorts and a tank top.

She spread them out on the floor into a make-shift bed.

"Maka what are you doing?"

"Well in case you need anything, I thought I should sleep in your room for tonight."

"Why don't you climb in bed with me?"

It was her turn to blush as a light pink tinged her cheeks. I threw back the covers and she layed down next to me. I wrapped my arms around her and she tensed, but soon relaxed.

Exhaustion took over my senses as I drifted off to sleep happily.
