Chapter 1 ~ A Wonderful Welcome...ish.
I open my eyes and shield myself from the sun, blinking rapidly to get used to the brightness of the light. I am on my back so I get up and look around to see nothing but green grass.
What? I think. But I start with what I know. My name is Arabella Whitney. I am fifteen years old and I live in Eghasa. I am the heir or the planet. Fairies, kelpies, unicorns and dragons. Witches, banshees, and oh yeah, people with special powers controlling the elements fire, water, earth, wind, and spirit. They're all reality. Spirit can only belong to one person at a time, and the person that has this is the heir. Which is me. Being blessed with all five unfortunately makes me wanted by everyone, whether that means being worshipped for my goddess-like qualities or to be killed so another can step up and rule planet Eghasa. My parents, Clarissa and Mark also have powers. Mom can control minds and levitate, while Dad can control water.
As the past but recent memories come across my mind, I feel my heart sink. I close my eyes, swallow, and nod. I have to do this.
"Where the hell am I? " I mutter to myself, putting my bags down and rubbing my tears away.
"You're on Earth."
"Who are you?" I ask, jumping at the sound of his voice, turning toward him. He was tall - way taller than my 5'4", with obsidian-black hair, cerulean blue eyes, and an eight-pack that was showing through his tight, black shirt. As a matter of fact, he was wearing all black.
"Are you done?" he asks, in an annoyed voice, smirking making me blush.
"Whatever," I mutter, trying to go for nonchalance and noticeably failing.
"Follow me," he said, turning around and walking away towards a forest that I had not noticed before because it was behind me. Shrugging I follow him, seeing as he seemed to know what he was doing, whilst I do not.
******
"How much farther?" I whined, exhausted. We had been walking for what seemed like hours.
"Five minutes," he replied. I scowl. He said that ten minutes ago.
"Can you at least take some of my bags?" I ask. He is so not that hot anymore. He huffs and mutters something about useless woman. Ugly ass! Said, figuratively of course, since he definitely did not have an ugly ass. He takes all my bags in one hand.
"Who are you and why am I following you?" I realize that I never asked for his name.
"Lex."
"Is that short for anything? Like, I don't know. Lucas, Lexis, umm Le-"
"Just Lex ," he brusquely mutters. I nod.
"What are you?" I ask him. He ignores me. "What is with the two or three word answers? The most you've said to me was 'You're on Earth' and 'Are you done'." He still ignores me.
"What. Are. You." I say, in a slow and steady voice.
"I'm your guardian until your parents come and get you. That is, if they're still alive."
"What?" I say, stopping ,my eyes stinging from the tears that threatened to come out. They wouldn't die so easily. Not Dad and Mom. They just wouldn't!
"What I mean, uh, is when they get you." he lamely finishes as I start to shake my head.
"No, you think they're gonna die don't you! Why would you say something like that?" He looked at me regret clear in his eyes.
