The Payment

I got up and started looking around, searching for my duffel bag. Grabbing it and noticing the book still is inside of the bag, judging by the weight of it, I walk  towards the door, quickly opening it. Scanning the parking lot for any people, I walked towards the exit of the parking lot as fast as I could. Which wasn't very fast. The bloody vampire had hit me hard, but it's not like it was my fault I got hit. If those hunters would have left me alone nothing would have happened and it would've made my job a hell of a lot easier. My phone started ringing. "Hello?"
"Miss Moore, I hope you have the grimoire I asked for?"
"I do. Where do you want me to hand it over to you?"
"I'll get an associate to pick you up later."
And with that my 'boss' hang up. Great, just what I needed. Some vague appointment with a creepy old dude. Isn't this day going just great.

Walking into the study of the old guy's house, I was basically fuming with anger. The guy he had send to pick me up hadn't exactly been subtle about the fact that I had to come with him right away, so I had to drop everything and rushed to the car, because that guy looked like he'd drive away without me just as easily. When we finally arrived at the house -well it's about the size of 3 normal houses- after half an hour driving, my employer had the nerf to make me wait for almost an hour without as much as a word. And now mr.  high and mighty finally decided that I was worthy of his time. So, as I walked into his office, I threw the duffel bag with the ancient spell book in it towards the desk.
"Your book. Now, I'd like my payment so that I can leave."
He seemed not at all surprised my my anger. In fact, he seemed to find it funny.
"Thank you, miss Moore. I must say, I didn't know expect you to do the job so quickly. I can see how you got your reputation. Your payment is already transferred to your bank account, as promised."
"If you didn't expect me to get your stupid book so soon why let your butler pick me up at such short notice, only to make me wait here for another hour?"
"You had the book, I need it. Why waste any time if you don't have a use for it anyways? I apologize deeply for making you wait, but there was an emergency that needed to be dealt with. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have things to do. Good afternoon, miss Moore."

At first I was surprised by his rudeness. The tone he used whilst speaking to me was just infuriating, he was acting like I'm some little girl who was nagging  about wanting candy or something. Who does this guy think he is! I look at him with this extremely big smile on my face and say to him, in the sweetest most polite way I possibly can:'' I'm glad to have helped you, sir. Perhaps next time you want someone to steal a moldy old book from an old vampire and you're too much of a chicken to do it yourself, you could call someone else, as although I don't mind vampires every once in a while I'd rather not get eaten by one if I have the choice. Thank you for offering me the experience tho.'' And I walked away. On my way out of the giant room we were in, I hear the old creep laughing.

''You'll certainly hear from me again, miss Moore. Don't you worry about that.''

Creep. Who even says something like that. I mean don't worry, I, a 90 year old dude, will call you again? Yeah no thanks. Not after the crap he just pulled anyways. Don't get me wrong I love the amount he payed but I'm not stupid. Although that statement is highly discussabel if I'm honest.

Once the butler guy had dropped me off at my crappy apartment, and with that I mean apartment building, I just walk inside and start climbing the stairs to get to my actual apartment, completely not noticing the black '67 Chevrolet Impala parked in a parking lot across the street. Why did I think I was gonna get out of the whole hunter situation easy?
