Chapter 8 -

"The gamma readings are definitely consistent with Selvig's reports on the Tesseract. But it's going to take weeks to process." Banner says while scanning the scepter. I look up from the screen displaying the data.

"If we bypass their mainframe and direct a reroute to the Homer cluster, we can clock this around six hundred teraflops." Tony says as he changes the settings on that screen to make his idea work.

"All I packed was a tooth brush." Banner says with a laugh. I walk over and look over his shoulder at the readings for the scepter.

You know, you should come by STARK Towers sometime. Top ten floors, all R&D..." Tony says walking over and I interrupt him adding on.

"You'd love it, it's amazing, like candy land" I say.

"Thanks, but last time I was in New York I kinda broke...Harlem" Banner says while comparing the data. I move over next to him to examine the scepter.

"Well, I promise a stress free environment. No tension. No surprises" Tony says walking behind Banner and I notice the electrical prod he has tucked in his hand.

"Tony don't" I say but he does it anyway and pokes Banner. Of course just then is when Steve happens to walk in.

"Ow" Banner exclaims under Tony's scrutinizing gaze.

"Nothing" Tony says perking an eyebrow, his mouth curved into a frown.

"Hey! Are you nuts?" Steve yells at him and Tony's frown quickly turns into a smirk.

"You really have got a lid on it, haven't you? What's your secret? Mellow jazz? Bongo drums? Huge bag of weed?" Tony says questioning Banner.

"Do you have to know everyone's secrets?" I asks him exasperated, he gives me a smile.

"Why yes, I do"

"Is everything a joke to you?" Steve yells at him interrupting our conversation.

"Funny things are" Tony says pointing the prod at Steve.

"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship isn't funny. No offense, doctor" Steve says with a quick glace to Banner at the end.

"Umm actually its a helicarrier" I  says quickly but they ignore me.

"No, its alright. I wouldn't have come if I couldn't handle pointy things." Banner says quickly covering up his annoyance.

"You're tiptoeing, big man. You need to strut" Tony says happily as he walks around the room.

"And you need to focus on the problem, Mr. Stark" Steve says angrily.

"You think I'm not? Why did Fury call us and why now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us? I can't do the equation unless I have all the variables." Tony says waving his hands for emphasis as he walks back so he is facing Steve.

"You think Fury's hiding something?" Steve asks seriously.

"He's a spy. Captain, he's The Spy. His secrets have secrets," Tony points at Banner, "It's bugging him too, isn't it?"

"Uh...I just want to finish my work here and..." Banner says suddenly getting more focused on the screen he's looking at.

"Doctor?" Steve asks.

Banner sighs and takes off his glasses. "A warm light for all man kind, Loki's jab at Fury about the cube" Banner says.

"I heard it" Steve says and Banner points at Tony.

"Well, I think that was meant for you" Banner explains and Tony offers him some blueberries from a bag he's munching from. "Even if Barton didn't tell Loki about the tower it was still all over the news."

"The Stark Tower? That big, ugly..." Steve starts and I'm tempted to use my magic to flip him but Tony gives him a very angry look. "...building in New York?" Steve says stopping the list he was making.

"It's powered by the Arc Reactor, self-sustaining energy source. That building will run itself for what, a year?" Banner asks.

"That's just the prototype. I'm kind of the only name in clean energy right now, that's what he's getting at" Tony says proudly.

"So, why didn't SHIELD bring him in on the Tesseract project? I mean, what are they doing in the energy business in the first place?" Banner says and I nod my head in agreement.

"I should probably look into that once my decryption program finishes breaking into all of SHIELD's secure files" Tony says walking around the desk and pulling out a small screen.

"I'm sorry, what did you say...?" Steve says.

"Jarvis has been running it since I hit the bridge. In a few hours we'll know every dirty little secret SHIELD has ever tried to hide" Tony says holding out the bag of blueberries "Blueberry?"

"Thanks" I say walking over and grabbing one from the packet "So that was the weird thing you did on the bridge, and you brought Jarvis?" I ask.

"Hello Miss Hannah" Jarvis says his voice coming from the small screen.

"You saw that," Tony asks surprised, "hopefully no one else did" he says with a worried expression.

"I think the only other person who noticed was Thor and he isn't from earth so I don't think he'll tell anyone Tony" I say walking over to pat him on the back in fake comfort. He quickly shoves me off not wanting to shrink his ego.

"Yet your confused about why they didn't want you around" Steve says continuing the conversation.

"An intelligence organization that fears intelligence? Historically, not possible" Tony says.

"I think Loki's trying to wind us up. This is a man who means to start a war, and if we don't stay focused, he'll succeed. We have orders, we should follow them" Steve says angrily with a quick glance at Banner.

"Sounds nothing like Loki but then again I wouldn't know because I've been gone for 10 years" I mumble under my breath and no one notices.

"Following is not really my style" Tony says.

"And you're all about style, aren't you?" Steve says putting on a fake smile.

"Of all the people in this room, which one is: A. wearing a spangly outfit, and B. not of use?" Tony says, Steve's comment must of hit a nerve because Tony was quick to defend himself with his trademark sarcasm.

"Steve, tell me none of this smells a little funky to you?" Banner says.

"Just find the cube." Steve says before walking out of the lab while trying to keep that seed of doubt from growing. I head out of the room planning on following Steve but get distracted. I see an interesting door and walk down the empty hallway towards it when I hear a whoosh and Fenrir appears beside me.

I jump and quickly swallow my small shriek "Jeez don't do that" I say to him angrily.

"Dad's here?" Is all he says.

"Yes"

"Can I talk to him?" He asks and I nod before continuing down the hallway to peer through the window in the door.

"Well what do you know?" I says surprised because the window leads to the room Loki's being led in. I put a hand on Fenrir's back before Turing us both invisible and stepping through the door.

A/n: well that was a quick chapter. Sorry for my not very good writing, I am working on it. Just found this in storage so I'm posting it
