It had been six months since each Princess had become a Queen. They were still quite excited about all of it. The new Queens were all still young and very beautiful and Grace was the only one who was married, but we will talk about that later.
The Queens have to meet each other somehow, but in a formal way.
Queen Bellisaria of France, Queen Isabel of Spain, Queen Katerina of Russia, Queen Elisa of Denmark, and Queen Grace of Denmark, all received invitations to "The Annual Royal Banquet," a humongous feast hosted by the Vatican in Rome to honor all the Kings and Queens. This time, of course, the new Queens would meet each other... But... There was a catch. The Queens had to be married or at least engaged to come to the party and they had to bring the person they are engaged to, with them. Each Queen read the invitation carefully and Katerina said, "Nonsense! I don't want to marry or be engaged! I don't want to SHARE my power. My power is MINE and nobody can take it. This is ridiculous! I've been Queen longer than ANY of those new Queen brats and NEVER has the Vatican told me I have to marry!" Her servant say next to her trying to calm her down and reason with her "Katerina, you know you are already of age to marry. Plus, technically you already are engaged. I don't know if you remember, but your mother engaged you to the Prince James of England when you were around 4," " Actually, I do remember... I did enjoy his company... Very well then, send for Amelia she will come here and we will arrange for him to come stay in the Castle."
This was only the beginning. Isabel threw the invitation, and tried to calm herself. She was Queen. She could not react like this. She decided that she would marry before the banquet. But who would she marry? She did not want to marry anyone below her rank. Many of Europe's princes were already married or engaged. Perhaps, a widowed King she thought, but then realized it would take too much effort and time. She finally settled on Prince Tonius of Portugal. "Send for him to be here in 3 days time by dawn. We will simply be engaged and will choose if we want to marry after the banquet," she said
Bellisaria was actually quite calm about this arrangement. Prince Eduard of Bavaria was already staying at French Court and was honored to attend the party with Bellisaria.
However, Queen Elisa of Luxembourg had fallen in love with a duke from England. He was below her rank and she could not disappoint her people, but the Count Jacob had to do for now.
Grace had decided to fight the Vatican. She was not going to fall for the Vatican's little tricks. She wanted to have an all powerful country all to herself. So, of course Grace being Grace she made a plan, but she had to write a quick letter to a King for her plan to work out.Dear King Geoffrey of Scotland,
This is Queen Grace of Denmark and I heard you have been recently coronated as well. I assume you have been invited to the Vatican's banquet on Rome. Well, if you have not then here is your chance to go. I would like you to accompany me to the event and you will pretend to be engaged to me in order for me to meet the new queens that seemed to have been coronated the same time as me it is telling me something sounds a bit wrong. All of these new queens have childhood histories as do I, but I would like to meet my lifelong competitors before I beat them. You know, get to know them. So, I have seen portraits of you and you will do very nicely for the banquet. I will have two of my ladies and my tailor come visit you and bring you your attire. If you have your own outfit I will send the ladies with a list of expectations and if you do not meet them you will wear what I sent you. I will send them out as soon as possible. Tonight, if the guards can get the carriages ready in time. I really am looking forward to going to this banquet with you.
Thanks,
Queen Grace of DenmarkAs the Queen folded her letter she had the head mailer stamp the letter with the Queen's royal postage stamp. The mailer handed the letter to the guards who then passed it on to Grace's ladies.
Grace waited about a whole day to get her response from King Geoffrey. He wrote a short response with minimal word use. It seemed to Grace that Geoffrey had made a clear point which she admired. My dear Queen Grace,
Yes. I was invited to the Vatican's banquet. I would be honored to join you in your fake engagement to me. It should seem a fun task to get away from our stressful everyday royal lives.
Sincerely,
GeoffreyGrace's plan had worked and she was to be going to The Royal Banquet. An annual event which she would have to go to every year. Ugh... She despised the thought of this. Grace thought that the Vatican merely did this event so they can push power out of Kings and Queens hands, but that would have to be settled later.
