I woke up the next day later than usual, realising this I hurried my daily activities and ran downstairs to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Braiding my hair, I entered the kitchen to see Edward Fairfax Rochester sitting down on the small wooden table in my kitchen, with a cup of what I assumed to be tea in his hands.
Suddenly aware of my presence, he looked up from his cup and directly into my eyes. For a moment, I believed it to be delirious.
Edward Fairfax Rochester in my kitchen table drinking morning tea? That's delusional.
But the look of pure bliss on his eyes and the small smirk playing on those familiar lips, assured me he indeed was real.
"Must you just stand there and admire my handsomeness from afar or will you come here and greet me a proper Good Morning?" Edward teased taking his hand out for me to take. I took it in a heartbeat. He closed his large hands on my small ones and pulled me into his lap.
I was sitting with my back to his chest and his arms were around my waist.
"Good Morning, Mr. Rochester." I said turning my face to look at him and was met with a scowl.
"Jane why you still call me so formally? Have we not yet crossed that barrier? you're my Bride-to-be for Pete's sake." I stifled a giggle at his childish yet commanding tone.
"Fine, Good Morning, Edward....Rochester." I could not stop my laugh at his agitated face then. Suddenly I felt myself turned and before I could speak, his mouth was on mine. Before I could decipher the event, he pulled away shortly but his forehead still touched mine.
"That's for being a vixen."
"I-"
I felt him grab my neck and pull me in again before I could utter a word. This time the kiss wasn't rushed or short. This time it was soft and slow, our lips moved together and it felt like it would melt to be one. It felt like he was putting every ounce of love in, like it was everything he's desired and my swell at the realisation of how fortunate I was to be loved by such a fellow human.
Very reluctantly, he pulled away and I could only imagine how flushed I must've looked at the moment. His eyes were now darker than the dark I had seen ever and a smug look made an appearance on his face.
"And that's how you wish your lover a proper Good Morning." A grin broke out on his face while stared at me blush.
"Edward! You are incorrigible."
"Only for you, my darling! I know another way you could greet me. Shall I teach you?" Edward said wiggling his eyebrows in a suggesting manner. I shook my head and pulled myself up with him still resisting.
"I do not have time for your childish notions Edward. I have to prepare breakfast!" I made my way to the ladder to search for potatoes while I put up a pot with water to boil. I felt my waist being encircled by two arms and I gave a defeated sigh. It was going to be hard to work with him being around.
"My notions are not childish, Jane. They're very much grown up. You see children don't think what I'm thinking at the moment."
I whipped around to give him an incredulous look.
"If you don't stop distracting me, I shall have to ask you to leave Edward. And I'm not jesting." I gave him a warning look so he could see I was serious.
"I apologise Janet. But could you blame me? It's our first morning together after being separated for so long. And we surely look like a married couple, don't you think?"
"But we're not wed yet." I pointed out.
"But we will and then we could be in bed all day if we wanted. How wonderful that would be!" He whispered while his lips hovered over my neck.
"Edward, you are impossible." I muttered blushing furiously. That's when I decided I should ignore him or else we would have to go without breakfast today.
I could not describe how but I did complete the task of preparing the breakfast. We ate in silence with Edward tugging rubbing my hands with his, occasionally. We decided to take a walk and that lead us to the lake by the farm. Edward had his hands around me the whole walk like I would fade to dust if didn't keep me close.
As we sat by the lake, Edward looked at me and paused to stare, searching for something I could not understand. I smiled at him softly taking his hands and kissed it to wash away any worry he had. Soon, his face softened.
"Are you happy, Jane?"
"More than I had ever imagined." Was all I could say.
