Wednesday 19th Aug 2015.
Coming back from the kitchen where I witnessed Femi, cook up a delectable meal, I sprung reposefully onto the the cushy bed and simply stared into space recalling the incident of yesterday like it happened just a minute ago.
"There's someone we want you to meet."
"Oh good. I see you've met my grandson Habib." Grandaunt pitched in.
He broke our intense gaze and greeted "Assalamu Alaikum. You must be... Fadeelah?. Nice to finally meet you." I said nothing, my mind completely blocked, completely abstracted. Oh sure that was his plan. To pretend like he never knew me, like we never happened. Completely baffled as to what to do, I also put on an act and lied. Lied and hid the pain and confusion I felt two years ago.
"Hello" I said with a smile that failed to reach my eyes.
"Fadeelah, is something wrong?" Mum ask worriedly. Yes mum. Everything is. When your past comes back to taunt you. What could you possibly do?. "Erm, no. I...i just forgot to make a call...I have to go." I said quickly awaiting no response and sped off to my room. Lord. Please let this be a dream, please let this just be a crazy nightmare.
How could it possibly be that someone who almost destroyed my life, almost left me ruined...is currently living under the same roof as me. Was this a mere coincidence? Or a fragment of my past that's here to destroy me?. Was he actually pretending not to know me? Or did he really fail to recognise me?.
"Fadeelah, am I missing out on something?" Asked Amal concerned. She always knew when something was wrong with me. Even if I tried my best to hide it.
"No. Why do you ask?"
"Because I can read your expression. Also, since that dating incident you've been acting quite strange."
"Strange? How do you mean?" I replied trying to mask my real expression with a fake smile.
"Spill." She said with a straight countenance.
I let out a breath. Trying to blink back the tears, I said. "The reason why he broke up with me was because I refused to do something he asked of me."
"What did he ask you to do? You don't have to say if you don't want to."
"I really don't want to. But what I can spill is that he erm...cursed us and ...used vulgar words on mum and dad." At that point Amal got so riled up that she decided to report to my parents and with my eyes blurred due to tears, I stopped her got hold of her legs like an eight year old and pleaded. "Amal please please I beg you don't tell mum and dad please. Whatever happens the blame is all on me dan Allah!."
Looking at the time I realized there was an hour left to Asr. So I went down to the living room and met Rashid and Khalid playing video games. Since yesterday these two have become so close that they decided to share a room. On second thoughts why wouldn't they be? They're both egg heads. They were extremely annoying last night. They disturbed me, messed with my hair and wouldn't leave me be. If not for grandma, they each would have gotten a black eye.
