When I talked to Emek, he told me he would explain everything to my parents for me. I thanked him for saving me the embarrasment, and he told me there was nothing to be embarrassed about.

After we ate, I went back up to my room and tried to fall asleep. It took a while, but I finally did, thinking of what she could be like.

I woke just as the sun was peeking over the horizon. It was about 6 a.m. and I couldn't wait to go back to my mate's house. I wanted to meet her so badly. I had to pace myself though. She may not even be up yet, considering I was up an hour before the rest of my pack was usually up on a Saturday.

I tip-toed into the kitchen and fixed myself a big breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice, the works. After I finished cooking and eating, I cleaned my dishes. By this time, it was about six thirty. I sighed, not knowing what to do with myself while I waited for the rest of the world to wake up.

I decided I'd go for a run. I stepped out the front door and headed to the tree line. As soon as I was hidden by the green growth of the trees, I took off. I jumped over a fallen log and changed to wolf form in mid-air, landing on four paws rather than two feet. I could feel my heart begin pumping faster. It felt great. It felt amazing, exhilarating.

I ran aimlessly for at least an hour, careful to stay on my pack's territory. Before I knew it, I was at the edge of our territory. I didn't dare cross over, knowing that would be a near death sentence for myself. I was temtped though, because when I stopped and looked up, there sat the little brown house.

I inhaled, smelling that wonderful scent once again. Suddenly, the scent became stronger. I heard something, a door. I sat down, mostly hidden by greenery. I looked toward the door only to find a boy walk out. He seemed to be around my age, and he definitely had some relation to my mate. He must have been her brother.

He had jet black hair that hung over his forehead in a messy-but-kept kind of way. He had on a t-shirt and pajama pants and walked lazily. He had a bowl in his hands and was walking toward the edge of the forest.

I wondered how much she looked like him. He had a sharp jaw-line. I could tell he was muscular, despite his sleepy state. He had an average nose that pointed out at the tip a bit.

He scratched his head and yawned, then once he was at the forest he flipped the bowl over and emptied its contents onto the ground. I could smell it now, the leftover bar-b-q and vegetables. He was throwing out scraps.

Didn't he know that would attract wild animals?

Suddenly I had a thought. Yes, this was the edge of my pack's territory, but where it ended I didn't smell any other wolves. I mean, someone owned the territory, but they apparently didn't come to this part of it often.

But what really got me was, I couldn't smell any other wolves. None at all. There was an animal smell I picked up, a dog or cat I think. But there was no scent of anything wolf-like near the house. Which could only mean...

My mate is a human.

I looked back up to the house, and realized that I didn't know where the boy had gone. I hadn't heard him go inside. I scanned the yard until I found him. It didn't take long, He was standing by the tire swing, almost as if he were hiding behind it, staring at me.

His mouth was slightly agape and his hands grasped the rope tightly as if he were holding himself up. He watched me in what seemed like amazement or awe rather than fear.

I decided I would have to come back later, maybe another day. I don't think she was going to come out of the house today, at least not right now. And now the boy would probably go inside and tell everyone that he had seen a big brown wolf, and then no one would be going outside much at all.
