Adderpaw tackled Stonetail, claws sheathed. He kicked her underbelly softly. Ever since Thrushstripe ran off to shadowclan, Adderpaw learned a lot. Stonetail taught her to hunt properly, fight, and how to carry moss for bedding under her chin. He was a great mentor and she was bursting with pride when she beat him in a practice fight two sunrises ago. Blackpaw, her best friend, became a warrior. Her new name is Blacktail. Windpaw and her we going to become warriors tonight! The thought snapped her back to reality. Adderpaw shook her pelt softly. She looked down at Stonetail and he purred with amusement. Adderpaw realized she puffed her chest out and her tail was straight up.
"Come on, Adderpaw, we don't want to be late for your own warrior ceremony!" He purred trying to keep the amusement out of his voice. He started padding towards camp. He looked back and flicked his tail. "Adderpaw! It's almost sundown come on!" He called.
"Coming!" She called. Her heart was racing. I'm going to be a warrior!!!! She thought. She sprinted after her mentor racing past him and making it to camp in a few heartbeats. She looked back and the grey and black warrior leapt out of the bushes. They padded through the fern tunnel.
"ALL CATS OLD ENOUGH TO CATCH THEIR OWN PREY GATHER BENEATH THE HIGH ROCK FOR A CLAN MEETING!" Ravenstar yowl rang out across the clearing. The leader sat down on the highrock. Stonetail sat down at the base of the highrock. Windpaw bounded over from where she was sitting with Fuzzypaw and sat down by Adderpaw. "Two apprentices have trained hard to show they are ready to become warriors. Adderpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code...." Ravenstar asked.
"I do." She said puffing out her chest proudly. Ravenstar repeated what he said to Windpaw. She also said I do.
"Then from this moment on you will be known as Adderfern and Windheart." He said leaping down and touched Adderfern's head with his nose and she licked his shoulder. Ravenstar did the same to Windheart.
"ADDERFERN! WINDHEART!" The clan cheered. Stonetail came up to Adderfern and touched noses with her. The other cats congratulated her and her sister. "Congrats!" "Congratulations!" "Nice jobs!" "You worked hard!" "You deserve warrior names." "No fair!" "I want to be a warrior." Cats were speaking all around her. Adderfern was starting to get overwhelmed. She slipped out of the mass of cats and met Hawktail at the Warriors den.
Hawktail pressed his muzzle against hers. They twined tails and laid down. They ate the squirrel Blacktail brought them. "You don't have a nest yet." Hawktail said to himself more than her. "You can sleep in my nest if we get some moss to make it a bit bigger." He said pressing closer to her.
Adderfern rested her head on her paws and Hawktail put his head across her neck. "You should go to sleep." She yawned and got up slowly, she stretched her legs one at a time. She shook her pelt and padded over to Windheart looking back at Hawktail.
"You two have been spending a lot of time together." Windheart said, Adderfern could tell she was trying to keep the jealousy out of her voice. Her tail tip was flicking rapidly. Adderfern licked her sister's ear comfortingly.
"If you want me to stop spending time with him I will." She muttered. "Even though we're mates now...." She whispered to herself.
"You don't have to." Windheart said moving close to her sister. "Hawktail is a nice cat. You're lucky." She smiled.
